US keen to solve Gulf crisis: envoy
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 19, (Agencies): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has made profound contributions towards political and economic stability around the world, said a ruling family official on Monday.
Addressing a gala hosted by the ministry of oil, as part of Kuwaiti national celebrations, the deputy head of the ruling family council Sheikh Ibrahim Duaij Al-Sabah pointed out that His Highness the Amir’s diplomatic prowess was conspicuous even at the tender age of 20.
He went on to say that His Highness the Amir has held lofty positions through the years and has immersed himself in the Arab region’s political affairs.
With His Highness the Amir at the helm, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij said the country has witnessed an epoch of development, citing a number of major projects to have come to fruition under his watch, including the construction of cultural centers and hospitals.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Oil’s Acting Undersecretary Sheikh Talal Al-Sabah told the press that the ministry typically holds seminars and lectures during this time of year over Kuwaiti history, which dates back more than 300 years.
He added that the purpose of such activities is to acquaint Kuwaitis with their country’s rich and illustrious history, which is dotted with notable accomplishments.
In another development, the US Ambassador of Kuwait HE Lawrence Silverman says the United States will do everything in its power to solve the Gulf crisis, indicating that the solution however lies in the decisions that the heads of the concerned states take, reports Al-Shahed daily.
Ambassador Silverman said this in response to a question about the US-Gulf Summit, which is expected to be held in Camp David in May.
He indicated that the US President, US Secretary of State and the State Secretary of Defense have clearly expressed the desire of the United States for the GCC dispute to be solved for the interest of the concerned states and the region as a whole as well as to confront the challenges that the region is currently facing.
The ambassador said, “The presence of a united GCC enhances our activities on various fronts especially in combating terrorism and defeating DAESH in addition to confronting Iran’s malicious influence in the region”.
He stressed the need for all parties to exercise restraint and avoid escalation of the crisis, adding that it is also important for the concerned parties to minimize the intensity of the language used and to work on reaching out to find a solution as previously stated by the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah on Monday congratulated His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on his 12th anniversary of assuming office.
The Kuwaiti interior minister expressed his well wishes to His Highness the Crown Prince in a cable he sent on behalf of the entire interior ministry personnel, read a statement by the ministry.
He went on to wish His Highness the Crown Prince continued health and prosperity, as he continues to stand by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Monday received congratulatory letters from His Highness Chairman of the National Guard Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, his deputy Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of assuming post.
