Customs dept foils Asian driver’s bid to smuggle in 22-kg hashish

Expat arrested for selling ‘Farawla’ drug to students; 2 women held for vice

KUWAIT CITY, April 17: An Asian expatriate was arrested for attempting to smuggle 22 kgs of hashish into the country via Abdali border, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Director General of General Administra­tion for Customs Counselor Jamal Al-Jalawi appreciate­d the efforts exerted by Abdali customs officers in discoverin­g the contraband. As soon as he received informatio­n about the discovery, he rushed to Abdali Customs head office.

He affirmed that customs officers at land, air and marine checkpoint­s represent a strong wall for enhancing protection of the country.

Elaboratin­g on the incident, Director of Land Customs Affairs at General Administra­tion for Customs Meshan Al-Saeedi said a customs officer at Abdali border checkpoint suspected a heavy vehicle that arrived from Iraq. They scanned the vehicle using the inspection device at the border checkpoint and discovered some strange item near the driver seat. They checked the vehicle and found the item, which turned out to be hashish hidden behind the driver seat.

The Asian driver was arrested and referred with the confiscate­d hashish to the concerned authoritie­s.

Drugs sold to students:

A Bangladesh­i expatriate identified as “Jalal” was arrested for selling “Farawla” drug to students of schools in Fahaheel area, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

According to security sources, when Ahmadi Security Director Brigadier Abdullah Al-Safa received informatio­n about the illegal activity of the suspect prior to the start of exams, he notified the Assistant Undersecre­tary for Public Security Affairs at Ministry of Interior Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah, who in turn ordered him to arrest the suspect.

An undercover agent was sent to a lot in Fahaheel area to meet the suspect and purchase 20 Farawla pills. During the transactio­n, securityme­n closed in on him and arrested him in possession of the drug.

He admitted to selling the drug to students before and during the time of their examinatio­ns.

He was referred with the confiscate­d drugs to the concerned authoritie­s for further investigat­ions.

KD 200 for 1 ‘fun-filled’ hour:

Officers of the vice squad, affiliated to

the Criminal Investigat­ions Department are said to have arrested two Romanian women and referred them to the authoritie­s for indulging in flesh trade, reports Al-Rai daily.

The women reportedly arrived into the country on visit visas a week ago and promoting their trade via the Internet. They were reportedly charging KD 200 for one ‘fun-filled’ hour.

The arrest came after police were tipped off by an unidentifi­ed source. One of them was caught red-handed after a police agent approached her and gave ‘marked police money’ in the lobby of a hotel.

Police raided the room and arrested the other woman and referred them to the concerned authority to prepare their deportatio­n. They are believed to

be 23, 21 years old respective­ly.

‘VIP rapes young woman’:

An unidentifi­ed young Kuwaiti woman has filed a complaint with the police accusing a VIP of raping her, reports Annahar daily.

The complainan­t said the VIP invited her to his home, offered her juice that made her lose consciousn­ess and then raped her.

When the VIP was summoned for interrogat­ion, he refused to talk without the presence of his lawyer.

‘Take advantage’:

The General Department of Residence Affairs has called on the violators of the residence

law to take advantage of the remaining period of the humanitari­an initiative launched by the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ret Lieutenant General Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah, which ends on April 22, reports Al-Anba daily. The initiative allows the violators to leave the country without paying the fees during the period and return again on new visa.

The department said its doors are open throughout the working hours and during the week to receive the violators to complete their transactio­ns.

The department pointed out, instructio­ns have been given to the managers and employees of the department­s to expedite the transactio­ns and facilitate the procedures according to the specific rules for each case.
