Sheikh Salem Award launches activities
Kuwait welcomes N. Korea’s nuclear test halt
KUWAIT CITY, April 21, (KUNA): His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award has launched its 18th session encompassing various activities, designed to fuel youth creativity and competition.
The program includes the 12th award edition, holding the international informatics forum 2018, seminars, two blogging competitions, a workshop, in addition to participation in Kuwait 4th International Book Fair.
These activities will be organized in shadow of the 2015-2020 strategy, themed “supporting digital transformation in knowledge and economy,” said Aida Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, Chairwoman of the award board of trustees, in a press release on Saturday.
The strategy is in line with His Highness the Amir’s vision of transforming Kuwait into an advanced regional center for commercial, financial and technological services, Sheikha Aida said.
It is largely fostered with the award initiative, “digitizing knowledge,” whereby diverse technological means are employed to promote knowledge in various realms.
This year’s award is launched under the title, “the best technological projects,” for fueling competition and innovation among individuals, public and private institutions, the board chair added.
The informatics award is the number-one prize, which has been offered by the board since 2007 to a personality of distinguished contributions to development in the field. Dubai Smart City won it last year.
Moreover, she has pointed out that the 2018 forum also fosters the youth small and medium enterprises.
The non-profit award was launched in 2001 as a development scheme in informatics and digital culture.
The State of Kuwait on Saturday welcomed North Korea’s recent decision to suspend its nuclear and ballistic activities.
This positive step would contribute to building confidence, defusing tension, which the world has long suffered, promoting security and stability and leading to de-nuking Korean Peninsula, an official source at the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said.
Korean leaders are hoped to agree on lasting peace in Korean Peninsula when they come together on April 27, the source added.
Pyongyang announced late on Friday halting the nuclear and missile activities as a good-will gesture ahead of a scheduled meeting between presidents of North and South Korea.
