MPW approves new regulations for prequalification of contracts
Proper execution of projects urged
KUWAIT CITY, April 21: Minister of Public Works Engineer Hossam Al-Roomi has approved the new regulations governing prequalification of local and international contractors for contracts and consultancy services floated by the ministry, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The decision, which the Undersecretary Engineer Awatef Al-Ghunaim signed few days ago to replace the previous regulations, is meant to screen local and international companies that participate in the ministry’s tenders to ensure proper execution of contracts with competency and excellence.
The new regulations emphasized that companies facing difficulties should be prevented from participating in the contracts to avoid delay of projects — as observed in the past, and distortion of old data. The ministry has since mandated all sectors to abide by contents of the regulations after addressing Central Tenders Committee to publish the document in the official Gazette of April 2018.
It also opened the door for prequalification of companies for contract and consultancy works, stressing the prequalification process will take place in two phases.
The first phase entails an initial general prequalification in registering as a contractor or consultant, depending on experience and specialty, while the second stage involves prequalification of a contractor for specific works or consultancy service.
