Indian police bust ‘child porno’ gang, network run from Kuwait

Duo kidnaps Filipina maid from sponsor’s garden

KUWAIT CITY, April 21: The Indian police in the state of Madhya Pradesh have seized a three-man believed to be part of global network which allegedly operated from Kuwait to promote and sell child pornograph­y (images and videos) through WhatsApp network, reports Al-Rai daily.

The reports, published by Indian electronic media, quoted the Inspector-General of Police for the E-Crimes Unit of the state, Jitendra Singh as saying the suspects are residents of Madhya Pradesh.

One of them is studying in Grade 12. Investigat­ions revealed the trio is affiliated to a network which operates under the name ‘sex for children only’) and have about 260 members in at least 28 countries around the world — Nepal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Canada, Myanmar, Vietnam, Uganda and Algeria. They allegedly operate through WhatsApp account linked to a Kuwaiti mobile number.

“At the time of arrest we discovered the network was run from Kuwait through a mobile phone number,” Singh said.

“It is known that the administra­tors of such networks are constantly moving from place to place, and said it is not unlikely that they had fled from Kuwait,” he added.

The report quoting Singh said preliminar­y investigat­ions have revealed that the administra­tor of the network currently resides in Kuwait, resident of the Indian state of Gujarat.

The two other members of the gang arrested are a 24-year-old electrical engineer and a 43-year-old home appliances dealer.

Singh said the three suspects will be indicted under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).)

Investigat­ions are continuing to seek further informatio­n on the network.

Filipina maid kidnapped:

Police are looking for two people for kidnapping a Filipina housemaid while feeding chicken in the garden of her Kuwaiti sponsor’s house in Sabah Al-Ahmad, reports Al-Rai daily.

The sponsor was looking from the window and was shocked when he saw two men riding a Jeep pulled over, one of them got down from the vehicle, was involved in a conversati­on with the maid for some time and then bundled her in the vehicle and drove off.

After the citizen filed a complaint with the police, the latter combed the entire area, but came out empty handed.

Inmate in suicide bid:

A 40-year old Kuwaiti inmate of Central Prison tried to commit suicide by swallowing large quantity of unknown pills, reports AlAnba daily.

A social worker in the prison happened to pass the ward of the prisoner when he discovered the suicide attempt of the latter because his request to be moved to another ward was rejected.

He was referred to the prison hospital and a case of suicide attempt was registered against him.

Police impersonat­or held:

A Bedoun youth was arrested for impersonat­ing police to waylay passersby and rob them of their valuables, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

According to security sources, a Pakistani expatriate informed securityme­n from Abu Halifa Police Station that an individual stopped him after claiming he is a police officer, and demanded to see his civil ID. When he pulled out his wallet, the suspect snatched it and took KD 80 cash from it.
