Deportation for expats collecting donations in Ramadan

Bank accounts of Kuwaiti to be frozen

-

KUWAIT CITY, April 21: The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has reached an agreement with the Interior Ministry, the Public Authority for Manpower and a number of concerned authorities to deport any expatriate who is caught collecting donations during the month of Ramadan, reports Al-Rai daily.

Explaining the decision, a reliable source said collecting donations individually or collectively without obtaining the permission from the concerned authorities is a violation of the law that regulated collections and donations.

In the same manner, if Kuwaitis are found to collect money through their bank accounts, such accounts will be frozen and the concerned person will be referred to the State Security before handing him/her over to the Public Prosecution.

A government source said tough action will be taken against the violators because no one is above the law and no one can harm the country’s reputation. There have been reports that ‘some’ people and organizations have been collecting donations for wrong purposes and this has distorted the name of not only Kuwait but also the charity societies, the intention of Kuwaitis and their love for charity work.

It is noteworthy to mention, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor some time ago had submitted to the National Assembly an integrated bill concerning charity work which also contains sanctions and severe punishment for violators provided for in the 1962 law on associations of public benefit.
