Plan underway to expand import of LNG

KPC constructi­ng permanent channels

KUWAIT CITY, April 22: Minister of Oil, Electricit­y and Water Bakhit Al-Rashidi affirmed that plan is underway to expand the import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to serve the power and water plants in the country permanentl­y, reports AlQabas daily.

He noted Kuwait Petroleum Corporatio­n (KPC) is constructi­ng permanent channels of import for LNG at Al-Zour through its subsidiary company (KPTC), indicating the project if completed will be considered among the most outstandin­g LNG import utilities in the world. He expected the project to be executed by fiscal year 2020/2021.

He stressed that most of the power plants in future will be operated on LNG either produced in Kuwait or imported. He expected Kuwait’s daily production of free natural gas to reach 500 million cubic feet before the end of 2018.

Meanwhile, Al-Rashidi said the ministry is dealing with all obstacles to the execution of the new Nuwaiseeb power plant and expected the signing of contract with the relevant consultant after all obstacles have been removed, in coordinati­on with the Kuwait Municipali­ty.
