Bangladesh Embassy commemorates Historic Mujibnagar Day
On April 17, 2018, the Historic Mujibnagar Day, The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kuwait observed the Day in a befitting manner in the Chancery with the presence of Embassy officials, officials of Bangladesh Military Continent (BMC) to Kuwait, officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and members of the Bangladeshi expatriates in Kuwait.
The discussion program began at 06:15 pm with recitation from the Holy Quran. Special doa and munajat were offered seeking divine blessings for the martyrs who laid down their valuable lives for the liberation war as well as the injured freedom fighters, and for continued
Photos from the event peace and progress of the country. One minute silence was observed in honor of the martyrs of the liberation war in 1971. His Excellency the Ambassador S.M. Abul Kalam along with other officers placed floral tributes before the portrait of the Father of the Nation. Messages given by the Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Minister for Liberation War Affairs and Hon’ble Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs on the occasion of the day were read out by officers of the Embassy. Md Anisuzzaman, Counsellor and Head of Chancery of the Embassy anchored the whole program. A good number of participants took part in discussion and they highlighted the importance of the Historic Mujibnagar Day in the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971.
It may be mentioned here that the Historic Mujibnagar Day is observed by Bangladesh on April 17 each year and the day is a turning point in the liberation war against Pakistan in 1971. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence of Bangladesh in the early hours of March 26, 1971. To lead the liberation war, a Government in Exile, designating Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman its President, was formed on April 17, 1971, which took their oath in Mujibnagar. The Mujibnagar Day is observed in remembrance of that historic day.
His Excellency the Ambassador S.M. Abul Kalam in his speech highlighted the event that led to the formation of the government in exile and its oath taking in Mujibnagar, the then Baidyanathtala in the Kustia district. He also detailed how the government in exile led the liberation war in the absence of Bangabandhu and achieved the independent of Bangladesh dreamt by him. He urged all present in the discussion to be united under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to achieve the ‘Sonar Bangla’ dreamt by father of the nation. Finally refreshments were arranged for all the guests.
