Kuwait opens media pavilion at FAO headquarters in Rome
KRCS helps Gaza hospitals with supplies
ROME, May 10, (KUNA): Kuwait’s Ambassador to Italy Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled Al-Sabah on Wednesday opened a new media pavilion at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome.
The pavilions showcases Kuwait’s efforts, through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED).
Talking to KUNA on the sidelines of the 34th FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific (APRC), Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled said that the pavilion was an initiative from the embassy and the permanent representative of Kuwait to FAO, shedding light on the role of the Kuwaiti fund over the last six decades.
It also highlights the cooperation between the KFAED and FAO, and documents their growing partnership to serve sustainable development worldwide, in line with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s keenness on enhancing international cooperation for poor communities. He also referred to a bilateral agreement signed earlier by the KFAED and FAO with the major aim of fighting hunger in regions exposed to starvation, such as Yemen, Somalia, South Sudan and northern Nigeria.
The pavilion displays media materials on KFAED’s activities, reports and detailed information, since it was established 57 years ago.
Meanwhile, Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) on Thursday handed over first aid supplies to hospitals suffering from shortage of these items in Gaza.
Redha Khudur, the society representative in Palestine, told KUNA that the supplies, worth $33,000, were provided for Abu Yusuf Al-Najar and Kamal Adwan hospitals due to their dire need for the medical tools and materials.
Ihab Modad, supervisor of medical aid treatment in the strip, said the Kuwaiti aid came at the right time with severe shortage of these supplies in the enclave.
The hospitals’ need for these supplies have drastically increased since launch of weekly protests along the strip demarcation line. The demonstrations have always resulted in casualties, namely a high number of injured, among the Palestinians due to violent confrontations with Israeli troops.
Palestinian Ministry of Health has appealed for aid due to severe shortage in medical and logistical resources.
