Kuwait to participate in UN’s crime prevention conference
Kuwait set to host GCC economic meet
VIENNA, May 12, (KUNA): A Kuwaiti delegation will participate in the 27th session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) due to take place on May 1418.
The delegation, led by the country’s representative to the United Nations Office in Vienna Sadeq Maarafi, includes senior officials of the ministries of justice and interior.
This will be the first time for Kuwait to take part in a CCPCJ event since the commission was founded in 1992. In last April, Kuwait was elected to the CCPCJ executive board for a three-year term starting in 2019.
The five-day session gathered nearly 1,000 senior government officials, law experts and academics as well as representatives of the civil society in the member states of the commission.
They are scheduled to discuss the subject of “Criminal justice responses to prevent and counter cybercrime in all its forms, including through the strengthening of cooperation at the national and international levels.”
The agenda also includes: strategic management, budgetary and administrative question; integration and coordination of efforts by UNODC (the UN Office on Drugs and Crime) and by member states in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice; use and application of UN standards and norms in crime prevention and criminal justice; and the world crime trends and emerging issues.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will open the meeting on Monday and then UNODC Executive Director Yury Fedotov will deliver a keynote speech.
Kuwait is set to play host to a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) economic and financial meeting on Monday, the Ministry of Finance said on Saturday.
The 107th meeting of the GCC Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee will be presided over by Kuwaiti Minister of Finance Nayef AlHajraf, with GCC Secretary-General Abdul-Latif Al-Zayani attending, the ministry said in a press statement.
The event is part of never-ending activities and efforts purposed to prop up economic integration among all the six GCC member states, it added.
Al-Hajraf was quoted as believing that 37 years of meetings and gatherings have brought favorable reflections on the Gulf economies, according to the statement.
Hopefully, the Gulf gathering would come up with concrete recommendations and resolutions that could culminate in a further Gulf economic and financial integration, the Kuwaiti minister said.
Kuwait’s Supreme National Committee for Child Protection’s (SNCCP) win of a major award from the International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN) as the 2018 best global multiple-specialized team is a top achievement for Kuwait.
Health Minister Sheikh Dr Basil Humoud Hamad Al-Sabah made the statement to KUNA Saturday as he received SNCCP delegation led by head of the committee Dr Mona Al-Khuwari.
Dr Basil Al-Sabah said such achievements enhance state competitiveness, raising it to the level of countries with distinctive rates of sustainable growth, through a well-knitted health system and a society whose people of all ages lead a healthy life.
He said that healthcare institutions are a key player in the effort to striving for the aspired life quality for the Kuwaiti society.
The KNCRP is highly interested in taking necessary measures to protect children against abuse and neglect, he said.
The SNCCP will receive the award during ISPCAN’s XXII International Congress on Child Abuse and Neglect, Prague, Czech Republic on Sept 2-5, 2018.
