Kuwait backs political solution
Darfur peace sought
NEW YORK, May 12, (KUNA): The State of Kuwait renewed late Thursday calls for finding a political solution to the conflict in the Sudanese region of Darfur, saying that the Doha Document should be the base for peace in the region.
Speaking to the meeting on the UN mission in Darfur, Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the UN headquarters in New York, Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi lauded the recent UN Secretariat report on the improving security situation in the Sudanese region.
A Kuwaiti delegation was part of a UN mission’s visit to Darfur back in April, said the Kuwaiti diplomat who indicated that the visit organized within the parameters of UNSC resolution 1591 concerning Sudan.
He also pointed out His Highness the Amir’s renowned international role in humanitarian and relief fields, which earned him the UN’s honoring of naming him an international “Humanitarian Leader” a few years back.
The event also addresses His Highness the Amir’s effective role in boosting brotherly ties among Arab countries long decades ago, during which he dealt with several important issues and succeeded in containing many challenges and crisis, said the Kuwaiti diplomat.
Al-Thuwaikh also mentioned the many accolades and honors granted to His Highness the Amir for his valuable role and contributions in the international arenas.
Kuwait, under His Highness’ leadership, saw many achievements and major projects in various fields, he said, noting His Highness had contributed to making the country the focus of world attention, and a diplomatic and cultural center respected and appreciated by everyone.
For his part, Dr Hasan Rateb, Chairman of Board of Trustees at Sinai University, lauded His Highness the Amir’s role in aiding Egypt during difficult times, as well as his faith in Cairo’s pioneering role in the region.
Rateb, in a press statement, valued His Highness’ positive and effective stands that expressed his real conviction of the solid historical relationship between Egypt and Kuwait.
“My participation in the forum stems from my firm belief in the importance of His Highness the Amir’s contributions in Egypt, Arab and Muslim nations,” he said, noting His Highness’s humanitarian efforts are still active and effective.
His Highness’ honoring by international and Arab organizations, especially naming him a “Humanitarian Leader” and “Man of Peace” are all well-deserved and earned titles, affirmed the Egyptian academic official.
He has left memorable marks on all levels, and his contributions are recognized in various fields, particularly cooperation and benevolence since he was a foreign minister, said Rateb.
