KUWAIT CITY, May 12: Lawyer Nedal AlHumaidan says 55 Kuwaiti women occupy leadership positions in the country. Women in the labor market constitute 79 percent, which is more than double the percentage of men as per the latest statistics in this regard, reports Al-Rai daily.

She revealed this during a seminar on “The demands of a Kuwaiti woman” which was organized by the women staff committee of Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET).

Lawyer Al-Humaidan said, “Any institute that seeks complete development should resort to supporting and empowering women. This is what is currently referred as smart economics because smart countries with smart economies activate a huge percentage of labor force they have. In Kuwait we find women outclassing men in the labor market”.

She explained that the number of Kuwaiti women working in the public sector, as per the latest statistics, reached approximately 161,000, which is about 79 percent. Ministry of Education alone has 65,000 Kuwaiti women and 11,000 men. At the same time, 55 Kuwaiti women occupy leadership positions.

Meanwhile, lawyer Areej Hamada said “Kuwaiti woman is already empowered but she needs equal opportunities in the current phase more than just talks about empowerment”.

She explained that, “Empowerment means she must have the ability and skills to execute a certain job. She already possesses the skills, a fact that she has proven in many fields. In fact, she has even proven that she can do better than men”. Lawyer Hamada called for equality between men and women in terms of getting same opportunities like men in all fields, urging the government to open wider doors for women to take over leadership positions that are mostly occupied by men.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Education has revealed its desire to hire male and female teachers from Egypt and Tunisia for the upcoming academic year 2018/2019, provided applications are submitted online through its website, reports Al-Rai daily.

The minister explained that the subjects for which teachers from Egypt are required are Music Education and Interior Decoration for girls and Technical Education for boys. From Tunisia, teachers are required for French language for boys and Physical Education for girls. At least a “good” GPA in the degree or diploma, and experience not less than two years for education certificate holders and three years for others are required.

The ministry said those who are accepted will be contacted on their numbers they provided in their online applications.

Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Hamid Al-Azmi announced the exemption of Kuwaitis, who wish to return to the education sector, from the requirement of obtaining a “distinction” grade for the last two years they worked as teachers in the specializations included in the ministry’s notice for its need for non-Kuwaitis annually. The decision issued by Minister Dr Al-Azmi affirmed that teachers will be assigned to any school that is in need and not necessarily to their previous schools.
