Al-Jabri mourns media veteran Abdullah Al-Muhailan
‘A great loss for Kuwait and Gulf media’
KUWAIT CITY, May 15, (KUNA): Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mohammad Al-Jabri mourned Tuesday the loss of Kuwait’s media veteran Abdullah AlMuhailan, who passed away earlier.
Al-Muhailan’s passing is a great loss for Kuwaiti and Gulf media, Al-Jabri, also President of the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Literature (NCCAL), said in a press statement.
His artistic and media creativities have contributed to the blossoming of Kuwaiti and Gulf media over the past decades, he said.
The Ministry has lost one of the prominent figures from the “creative talents” generation, particularly in the audiovisual media field, leaving behind a luminous mark and legacy in the memory and history of radio programs and shows, said Al-Jabri.
Al-Muhailan’s theatre education in Egypt had contributed significantly in developing his media thought and message, he mentioned, adding the late media personality was a role model for creativity and commitment to media work ethics.
He was also an ideal example of hard work, diligence, and excellence, through which he gained a large radio listener base in Gulf and Arab countries, added the minister.
His famous radio program “Thursday’s Break”, which he presented via Radio Kuwait, was considered at its time as an unprecedented media creativity on the Arab countries level, AlJabri noted.
Furthermore, Al-Muhailan’s famous TV show “To the Viewer with a Greeting” and several other programs were also regarded as completion to the creativities of Kuwaiti media founders and pioneers, whom he worked and took part with in delivering their patriotic and sophisticated media message, he added.
Al-Jabri extended his sincere condolences and sorrow to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues in Kuwait and the Gulf, praying to Allah Almighty to place him in His heavens and inspire his family and loved ones with patience and solace.
Istanbul Forum for Arab Journalists concluded on Saturday with the participants agreeing to work with their Turkish counterparts for closer relations and more credible profession.
The participants highlighted the need to continue such meetings in the future in order to bring closer their viewpoints and those of the Turkish peers on various issues of mutual concern, notably the Palestine question.
They highlighted the importance of close contacts and prioritizing the Turkish media outlets in getting accurate and credible information, according to the recommendations of the forum.
In his address to the closing session, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu criticized the unilateral decision, made in last December by US President Donald Trump, to relocate the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. “This decision is wrong. We need to take a common stance against this wrong decision,” AA quoted the minister as saying.
Cavusoglu reiterated Turkey’s stance on Palestine, saying, “Even if all countries remain silent on the Jerusalem issue Turkey will not.
“Turkey will continue to defend the Jerusalem case for the Palestinians,” the Turkish top diplomat added.
The forum, the first such event, was organized by Istanbul Municipality; it gathered 60 journalists from 18 Arab countries.
It saw fruitful discussions between journalists from Arab countries — including Egypt, Kuwait, Syria, Libya, Sudan and Tunisia, and Turkey.
Secretary-General of Kuwait Journalists Association (KJA) Adnan AlRashed and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Talal Al-Kandari took part in the event.
During their six-day stay, the participants met Turkish senior officials and visited several landmarks in Turkey’s largest city, including Miniaturk Museum, Turk Telekom and the Bosporus Straits.
On Thursday, they attended the opening ceremony of the Ethnosports Culture Festival at Istanbul’s Yenikapi Square.
