Ministry issues citations against Rumaithiya co-op over ‘statement’
Cooperatives sector’s 3 projects to benefit shareholders
KUWAIT CITY, June 9: The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has issued a citation against the Rumaithiya Cooperative Society for issuing a statement of political nature on the occasion of the ‘International Jerusalem Day’, reports Al-Rai daily.
The daily stressed the society is not the competent authority to issue such statements.
Assistant Undersecretary for the Cooperative Sector AbdulAziz Shuaib said the laws in force in Kuwait prohibit cooperative societies from interfering in religious and political affairs.
He stressed the ministry will not hesitate to take legal action against any society that violates these laws.
He pointed out when the ministry contacted the officials of Al-Rumaithiya Cooperative Society after the statement was issued the ministry discovered some manipulations within the society members.
Shuaib added despite clarifications issued by the society, he said it should not have issued such a statement which is essentially contrary to the objectives, for which it is established, being a consumer cooperative society which is legally obliged not to interfere in any religious or political affairs.
Meanwhile, Assistant Undersecretary for Cooperative Societies Sector at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Abdulaziz Shuaib disclosed that the sector has three important projects in favor of the shareholders, reports Al-Anba daily.
Shuaib said the first project is the Kuwaitization of cooperative societies in coordination with the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) and Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies.
He revealed a team has been formed to lay down a plan for employing Kuwaitis, including the specification of job titles which match specializations needed in different sectors and to encourage citizens to work in cooperative societies.
He added the second project is still under study, indicating a company will be established for dealing with vegetables. He believes this project will address differences in the prices of vegetables from one cooperative society to another.
He went on to say that the third project is underway – an automated monitoring system for everything which goes in and out of cooperative societies.
Talking about the profit of cooperative societies, Shuaib announced that the total profit reached KD50 million by the end of 2017. He asserted the profit increased due to the efficient monitoring mechanism, particularly the role played by administrative and financial monitors.
