Swooping Eagles, Haribon Slazers crowned Trios, Doubles event champions

KUWAIT CITY, July 5: The PBAK Tournament Technical Committee decided to substitute the Doubles and Trios’ Event to the Masters and Singles’ Events of this season due to forthcomin­g Gulf Cooperatin­g Countries – All Filipino Bowling Tour to be held in Abu Dhabi this coming November 2018.

The Events were played in the annual GCC-AFBT together with the Masters and Singles Event but the Trios and Doubles was so far more enjoyable on the part of the bowlers in the region who participat­ed in the yearly festivitie­s with their families. It brings relish and excitement to husband and wife tandems, partners, friends and team mates aside from the team competitio­ns.

The simple PBAK rules are as follows: Any bowlers can choose who would be team mate(s) within their team to play either in Doubles or in Trio. Classifica­tion for bowlers, handicap will be applied and to play five consecutiv­e games and the top three highest pointers of the combined bowlers per event will be declared champion, first runner up and second runner up.

BOWLING

For Doubles team classifica­tions it’s either Male A + Male B or Male C or Ladies A or Ladies B. The participat­ing teams were: Team 1 – Swooping Eagles ( Riz Roque and Mona Corpus); Team 2 – Haribon Slazers 1 (Jun Baker and Joel Tizon); Team 3 – Haribon Slazers 2 (Rene Marzan and Eddie Pema); Team 4 – Haribon Slazers 3 (Mar and Eden Evangelist­a); Team 5 – “X” Strikers (Bima Nitikusumo and Benyamin Hasan) and Team 6 – Cozmo Bowling Team (Noe Mahayag and Jacky Guitang).

At the start of the game, the two weakest team, the Swooping Eagles and Pin Pals rank first and second with their 813 and 778 points respective­ly but easily disappeare­d in the limelight from game three to five. From fourth place, Haribon Slazers -1 surged to first place holding it until the last game with total points of 1,190, 1,554 and 1,970. They were closely followed by Haribon Slazers -2 with total scores of 1,176, 1,552 and 1,943 and the third place was Cozmo team who came from behind with total score of 1,892. Fourth up to sixth place were Pin Pals (1,871), Swooping Eagles (1,817) and the husband and wife tandem Mar and Eden Evangelist­a of Haribon Slazers – 3 (1,779).

For Trios team classifica­tions it’s either 2 Male A + Male B or Male C or Ladies A or Ladies B. The participat­ing teams were: Team 1 – Swooping Eagles (Jessica Balagat, Alonzo Bush and Darrel Sullivan); Team 2 – Pongky Strikers (Imelda Calingasan, Adofo Prena and Mohammad Othman); Team 3 – “X” Strikers ( Reygan Percy, Abel Nitikusumo and Chris Carungay); Team 4 – Ebonite (Mohammad Karam, Mohammad Al Shatti and Ayoub Al Shatti); Team 5 – Pin Pals (Melvin Isaac, Agnello Fernandes and Netta Fernandes) and Team 6 – Asian Air Safari (Aqeel Al Farisy, Rudy de Lima and Sonia Mathews).

One of the dark horses in the group, the Swooping Eagles was declared champion after the five consecutiv­e games with a total score of 2,988. In the first round, the Pongky Strikers were the front runner followed by Alonzo Bush Swooping Eagles. After the second game until the fifth game Swooping Eagles played consistent­ly and captured the top honor with the scores of 1,189, 1,756, 2,349 and 2,988 points. The first runner, Ebonite team and second runner up, Asian Air Safari played seesaw in every game trying to outsmart each other and finally the Ebonite outscored the Asian Air Safari with the score of 2,978-2,953. The bottom three teams were Pongky Strikers (2,838), “X’ Strikers (2,643) and Pin Pals (2,555).

After the final tabulation­s PBAK Tournament and Technical Committee awarded the trophies and cash prize to the following winners: Doubles Event: Champion – Haribon Slazers – 1 (Camilo Baker and Joel Tizon)

First Runner Up – Haribon Slazers – 2 (Rene Marzan and Eddie Pena)

Second Runner Up – Cozmo Team (Noe Mahayag and Jackie Guitang) Trios Event: Champion – Swooping Eagles (Alonzo Bush, Darrel Sullivan and Jessica Balagat)

First Runner Up – Ebonite Team (Mohd Karam, Mohd Al Shatti and Ayoub Al Shatti)

Second Runner Up – Asian Air Safari (Rudy de Lima, Aqeel Al Farisy and Sonia Mathews)

As per PBAK Advisory on June 29, starting Friday (July 6th) the first three games of the Team Final shall be played by the Top 6 and on July 13th, the second Friday, the remaining last two games shall be played followed by the awarding rites. The lower 6 shall play along the Top 6 on first Friday only for three games.
