Panel to discuss govt decision to reject Early Retirement Law
1,300 Bedoun pilgrims register to perform Hajj
KUWAIT CITY, July 7: The parliamentary Finance Committee will discuss in its next meeting the government’s decision to reject the Early Retirement Law and look into the latter’s justifications for taking such a decision, reports Al-Shahid daily.
Several MPs have criticized the government’s decision considering the law enjoys major parliamentary support. They consider this a negative move by the government and a clear indication of its unwillingness to cooperate with the Parliament.
MP Ahmad Al-Fadhli affirmed that he was not surprised when the government rejected the law. In fact, he expected the government to do so and it is unfortunate that many in the Parliament failed to listen to the voice of logic when advised not to waste time on this issue, not forgetting its importance given that it supports 88 percent of the retirees.
MP Khalil Al-Saleh pointed out the government is moving opposite the current in terms of popular gains and issues concerning citizens, emphasizing on the importance of endorsing the law through a regular majority in the first session after the summer vacation.
MP Riyadh Al-Adasani said the MPs have the right to endorse laws in line with the Constitution, citing several laws which the government has rejected throughout the parliamentary life. He reiterated the MPs have the right to endorse laws even if laws have been rejected by the government.
The Hajj Affairs Office affiliated to Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced that 1,300 Bedoun pilgrims have registered to perform Hajj rituals this year, reports Al-Shahed daily.
