Ministry to appease gold traders
KUWAIT CITY, July 10, (KUNA): Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said passenger traffic at Kuwait International Airport increased by 18 percent last June with 1,222,449 passengers compared to 1,034,477 passengers in June 2017.
In a statement to KUNA, Deputy Director-General of Air Transport Emad Al-Jalawi said on Tuesday that passenger traffic reached 505,653 passengers last June compared to 417,337 passengers in June 2017.
Departing passengers were 716,796 in June versus 617,140 passengers in June 2017, Al-Jalawi said.
Total number of flights to and from Kuwait International Airport last June reached 10,071 flights as opposed to 8,998 flights in June 2017.
Freight traffic at Kuwait International Airport was about 19.2 million kilograms last June compared to June 2017 with 18.75 million kilograms, he added. Shipping traffic in June was about 14.91 million kg versus 14.31 million kg in June 2017.
Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Commerce and Industry is eager to overcome obstacles facing gold traders and merchants through providing them with an environment conducive for business, its undersecretary Dr Khaled Al-Fadhel said on Tuesday.

National laws and regulations should be abided by given the recent irregularities detected in the gold business, which will be dealt with through the rule of law; he was cited as saying in a statement issued by the ministry.
Al-Fadhel said that the ministry has met with the gold traders recently to address their grievances, including chronic delays that have dogged transactions in gold and other precious stones.
And, the Ministry of Health commended the government Monday for approving the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products, a move that would boost Kuwait’s international status. Kuwait was among the first countries to join the protocol and complies with it, MoH spokesman Dr Ahmad Al-Shatti said in a statement.
Al-Shatti, also vice-chairman of smoking combating program, said the cabinet’s approval of the protocol coincided with preparations for a high-level UN meeting for prevention of non-communicable diseases, due in New York on September 27. He explained the UN meeting aimed at reviewing reports by countries over prevention of non-communicable diseases.
Ministry of Finance has issued new circular concerning directives and regulations to be followed while preparing budget estimates, especially those related to independent agencies, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The content of the directives included the need to abide by decisions and directives from the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Finance as regards the estimates of specific expenditures such as phone, fuel, oil, air tickets and shipping, while making an allowance for capital expenditure of furniture and vehicles linked to the anticipated lifespan of materials in possession of the agencies to decide the preferred policy between purchase and hiring. The agencies were directed to consider estimation of vehicles and furniture appropriate for the purpose of usage to ensure the cheapest commodity is selected without sourcing for luxurious types.
