KUWAIT CITY, July 17: The Egyptian Ambassador to Kuwait Tarek Elkouny has affirmed that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad AlJaber Al-Sabah and the people of Kuwait have a special place in the hearts of Egyptians and are appreciated by the Egyptian political leadership, reports Al-Anba daily.
In an interview with the daily, which is his first press interview since he took office eight months ago, Ambassador Elkouny indicated that the people of Egypt are looking forward to His Highness the Amir’s visit to Egypt soon.
He highlighted the deep-rooted Kuwaiti-Egyptian relations, describing it as an example in relations between nations.
The ambassador praised the stances taken by Kuwait and her leadership towards Egypt during the past years especially after the June 30 Revolution in 2013.
He affirmed that the outlook of both Egypt and Kuwait is in harmony with their mutual vision and interests, adding that they are active in serving the region’s issues and ensuring security, stability and prosperity prevail.
In the same context, Ambassador Elkouny revealed about the meetings of the joint committee headed by the foreign ministers of the two countries to be held in Kuwait before end of this year.
He explained that preparations are underway for the third meeting of the Egyptian-Kuwaiti Cooperation Council to be held in Kuwait. It will play a crucial role in strengthening the relations between the two countries not only in the economic and political aspects but also in cultural and social aspects with the inclusion of elite businessmen and public figures from both countries.
Ambassador Elkouny affirmed about positive developments in the Egyptian-Kuwaiti relations in some sectors such as trade in non-petroleum products, which jumped in the past years to reach $500 million, most notably agricultural and food products both raw and manufactured.
He also highlighted the growth in aviation and tourism activities between the two countries, revealing that there are many flights to and from Kuwait and various Egyptian destinations such as Cairo, Sharm el-Sheikh, Alexandria and northern Egypt, which represent an important indicator of the increase in the movement of individuals, trade and economy.
Ambassador Elkouny indicated about ongoing plans to demolish and reconstruct the Egyptian embassy building, adding that the embassy will be moved to a temporary building until the construction is completed.
