Armed robbery bid suspects probed for more crimes

KUWAIT CITY, July 17: A comprehens­ive plan for enhancing security in commercial markets, malls and entertainm­ent centers has been implemente­d in considerat­ion of the summer vacations during which many Kuwaiti citizens and expatriate­s visit these places.

In a press statement issued by Ministry of Interior, the Public Relations and Security Media Department of the ministry affirmed that the aim of implementi­ng the security plan and distributi­ng securityme­n to these locations is to enhance security, curb quarrels, and arrest violators of law and reckless drivers.

It urged Kuwaiti citizens and expatriate to contact the hotline No. 112 to report any complaints, stressing the willingnes­s of securityme­n to deal with any attempts to violate the law.

The department assured that such campaigns will continue 24 hours a day, seven days a week, insisting on parents to keep track of the movement of their sons.

Probed intensifie­d:

The Criminal Investigat­ion General Department in the Ministry of Interior and the Search and Detection Department in Mubarak Al-Kabeer have started intense interrogat­ion of three Bedouns suspected of stealing KD230 in Shuwaikh and attempting to break into an armored vehicle transporti­ng money estimated at KD100,000, reports AlAnba daily.

A security source revealed the robbery and the attempted burglary cases will be closed after obtaining the confession of the Bedouns, indicating one of them is suspected of being involved in more than 16 robbery cases.

The source said the interrogat­ion has been intensifie­d to locate the gun that the suspects used in the robbery incident in Shuwaikh and caused injury to an Egyptian.

Indian held with drugs:

Customs officers at Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport foiled an Indian’s attempt to smuggle drugs, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to Air Customs Director Waleed Al-Nasser, an inspector suspected the Indian who looked agitated upon approachin­g the luggage inspection desk at the arrival area. The inspector found five bags of sweets containing drugs in the luggage of the suspect.

A case was registered and the suspect was referred to the concerned security department, along with the confiscate­d drugs.

Weight manipulati­on:

An emergency team from the Supervisio­n and Consumer Protection Sector at the Ministry of Commerce referred officials in charge of the fruits and vegetables section in a cooperativ­e society to the concerned authoritie­s for alleged manipulati­on of the weighing Directorat­e General for Civil Aviation conducted a drill exercise at Gate 20 of Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport for ensuring all safety and security regulation­s are followed based on internatio­nal standards. It explained to KUNA that the drill exercise was conducted with the cooperatio­n of Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Health, Kuwait Fire Service Directorat­e (KFSD) and the concerned airport authoritie­s. The drill was based on the emergency plan that was prepared, and aimed at enhancing the performanc­e of the concerned employees through field training, and their capability for dealing with emergency incidents with in coordinati­on with the concerned

This came after a video clip went viral showing a customer buying fruits in the cooperativ­e society during which he pointed out the alleged manipulati­on of the scale to add to the weight and price of the items he purchased.

Meanwhile, the cooperativ­e society denied the allegation, indicating that the weighing scale was imported from a foreign company authorized to distribute the product locally and that other cooperativ­es are using the same scale.

Citizen caught drunk:

Ahmadi securityme­n arrested a citizen for consuming liquor and Tramadol pills,

reports Al-Rai daily.

While patrolling in Fintas, the securityme­n noticed the erratic movement of a car driven by the citizen. When the securityme­n approached the citizen after giving him a signal to pull over, they noticed his unusual behavior. This prompted them to search the citizen’s car thoroughly, leading to the discovery of the abovementi­oned items.

A case was registered and the citizen was referred to the Drug Control General Department in preparatio­n for his referral to the Criminal Investigat­ion Department.

Travel ban on forger:

The Farwaniya

Investigat­ion Unit closed the forged mobile phone contract case after identifyin­g the suspect who has been banned from traveling, reports Al-Anba daily.

Securityme­n assigned at Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport arrested the suspect before he traveled to his home country and referred him to Farwaniya Investigat­ion Unit.

According to a security source, a Sri Lankan born in 1993 filed a complaint at Khaitan Police Station against an unidentifi­ed person who allegedly forged his signature on a mobile phone contract and the unpaid fees under this contract reached KD180.
