Wataniya Airways clarifies the technical error on Beirut flight
‘Safety procedures our top priority’
KUWAIT CITY, July 17: Wataniya Airways, the newest airline in Kuwait, released the details of the technical error that took place on its flight from Beirut to Kuwait on July 16, 2018 which required the rerouting and landing of the plane at Aqaba Jordan Airport.
The company explained that the flight took off normally from Beirut airport after the completion of the inspection, safety procedures and full air traffic coordination with the Civil Aviation Administration at Beirut Airport. However, during the flight in the Jordanian airspace, one of the engines faced a sudden relative malfunction. As a result, the captain of the aircraft, Captain Nasser Al-Ajmi, immediately decided to land at Aqaba Jordanian Airport for the safety of the passengers, and communicated with the Civil Aviation Administration at Aqaba Airport to ensure the landing of the flight, and securing hotel accommodation for passengers until the technical inspection of the aircraft is cleared.
Once the plane landed safely and the safety of all passengers was ensured, they were then accompanied to a hotel in preparation for their flight back to Kuwait. Meanwhile, a thorough technical inspection was conducted to determine the type and nature of the technical defect that affected the engine. Wataniya Airways confirms that it is committed to the highest standards of world-class professional quality control and inspections, and in cooperation with the world’s largest companies to ensure the best performance of their aircrafts, and that safety procedures are an absolute priority.
Wataniya Airways thanks its passengers on this flight for their full cooperation with the crew, and recognizes the captain and the service crew as well as the civil aviation authorities at Aqaba Airport for their effective cooperation, and we wish our passengers continuous safety.
