MP reiterates objection to renewing tenure of 30 years in service top Oil officials
Assembly successfully implements internal secretarial network
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 11: As part of parliamentary preparations for the upcoming legislative term that some political analysts expect to be “heated,” MP Al-vHumaidi Al-Subai’i reiterated his objection to renewing the tenure of high-ranking Ministry of Oil officials who have been in service for 30 years.
He asserted that renewing the tenure of these officials despite the parliamentary warnings will lead to tension between the legislative and executive authorities.
He pointed out the governmental committee formed to look into the grilling points of MPs Omar Al-Tabtabaei and Abdulwahab Al-Babtain during their interpellation of the minister in the last legislative term condemned the higher management in the ministry and the minister himself. He said the MPs are waiting for the ministry’s response to the conclusion of the committee on the issues raised by the National Assembly last year.
He stressed the Assembly will never approve renewal of the tenure of those who have completed 30 years and are supposed to resign as they have surpassed the legal period of service and are simply prolonging their stay for their own benefit. He affirmed these same individuals referred other employees, who failed to win their approval, for resignation although they served for 28 years only.
He claimed the manipulation of the employment process in the ministry extends to job vacancy advertisements, citing what he considers a very peculiar advertisement published recently as it raises more questions. He said the requirements stated in the advertisement seem to fit an individual that they know and want to hire.
In another development, the Assembly has successfully implemented the internal secretarial network linking offices of MPs to the management office.
Consequently, the Secretarial Management Department at the Assembly organized a workshop to introduce the system to the concerned employees and distribute their passwords.
Head of the department Eissa Al-Kandari explained the system will provide and track information such as the number of secretaries and drivers affiliated to each MP. He said the second stage of implementation, which will take place in the upcoming months, will link the same offices to the Human Resources Department to provide and track data such as absences and vacation days.
He added the third stage will be implemented next year - the establishment of communication channel between the management and MPs’ offices.
