KUWAIT CITY, Oct 11: Kuwait Culture Office in Cairo has denied rumors concerning the issuance of a decision to extend the period of registration in bachelor’s programs for Kuwaiti students, reports AlRai daily quoting a source from the office.

He stressed that the Kuwaiti students should not heed to such rumors, and should instead check with the office to ascertain the validity of the information.

The source revealed that the office has not issued any statement to accredit bachelor degree certificates, insisting that students should resort to Ministry of Higher Education with their certificates to check for the validity of the data from the Kuwait Culture Office in Cairo.

Deputy Head of the National Union of Kuwaiti Students-Egypt branch Saleh Al-Manoukh revealed the union recently discussed with Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh and MP Mohammad AlHuwailah the cancellation of the decision of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to stop granting study leave to Kuwaiti employees, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Speaking to the daily, Al-Manoukh pointed out that Al-Saleh promised to follow up the decision and ask the CSC to submit a report on the justifications for taking such as step, as well as take the necessary action considering that the study leave for Kuwaiti employees does not exceed 45 days.

He asserted thousands of students are affected by the decision, stressing these students are Kuwaiti employees pursuing higher studies – master’s and doctorate degrees – in universities outside the country.

In another development, Public Authority for Roads and Transportation (PART) has requested Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) to allow road-paving contractors to import bitumen that is used for paving roads, reports Al-Rai daily quoting informed sources.

They explained that Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) supplies the required quantities of bitumen used for paving streets and is currently considering the establishment of a new unit to increase the quantities. However, PART has requested KPC to allow contractors to import the required quantities in case of need and when the produced quantities are not available to meet the projects’ needs.

The sources indicated that the main reason behind the lack of bitumen is the cessation of works in the producing unit where periodic maintenance works are ongoing.
