Vikings take aim at Arizona, rookie QB Rosen

Redskins on rebound as Panthers approach full strength

MINNESOTA, Oct 11, (RTRS): The Minnesota Vikings righted the ship somewhat against the Philadelphia Eagles last week, avenging last year’s NFC Championship Game loss and getting back to .500 at 2-2-1.

With only one road trip between now and Nov 18, Minnesota has a great opportunity to put together a string of wins ahead of back-to-back NFC North showdowns in Weeks 11 (at Chicago) and 12 (vs Green things.

While the Redskins are dogged by injuries on a short week, it could be getting even better for the Panthers (3-1).

They have linebacker Thomas Davis back from a four-game, season-opening suspension and he’s expected to be in a starting role.

A 43-19 road loss Monday night at New Orleans means the Redskins have a shorter period of preparation for the Carolina game. It also put the team in a rather rotten mood.

Gruden said quarterback Alex Smith needs to be more comfortable in the pocket and that stems from what’s going on around him. It might also be a byproduct of what happens when the Redskins have faced deficits.

The Panthers have the top rushing attack in the NFL with 154 rushing yards per game.

In four games against the Redskins, Newton has thrown for nine touchdowns without an interception.

Newton could have another offensive weapon back for his use with tight end Greg Olsen returning to practice following suffering a broken foot bone in the Sept 9 opener.

Carolina expects to have center Ryan Kalil available after he left late in Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury. He was back for practice Wednesday.

The Redskins scrapped a regular practice Wednesday in favor of a walk-through in the adjusted schedule for the week coming off a Monday night game. Running back Adrian Peterson (shoulder) said he plans to try to play through discomfort this week.

Even if Dallas wide receivers finally get on the same page as quarterback Dak Prescott, the elite Jacksonville secondary is waiting to put them through the shredder on Sunday in Arlington, Texas.

The Jaguars (3-2) have the NFL’s No. 1-ranked pass defense, allowing just 191.0 yards per game and a league-low three touchdown passes in five games.

The Cowboys (2-3) rank 30th in the NFL in passing with 172.0 yards per game, and Prescott has thrown only three TD passes to his wide receivers.
