Committee to ‘reinstate’ 20% revoked citizenship
‘Within the provisions of the law’
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 18: The committee that was tasked with the issue of reinstating the revoked citizenship is said to have completed its work and submitted a detailed report to HH the Prime Minister, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting a knowledgeable source.
The same source said the committee is not expected to meet again to discuss this issue.
However, the source added the committee has agreed to reinstate the nationality of only 20 percent of the people - the names of people who are included in the files of grievances, while 80 percent of the names have been rejected.
The source went on to say the people who were recently granted the citizenship and the names published in the Official Gazette have been approved by the Committee.
The source concluded the recent decisions of government related to reinstating the citizenship are in line with the provisions of the law and the decisions of the committee, therefore the government does not pay attention to any parliamentary threat.
The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) says its approval or disapproval of the merger of Kuwait Finance House (KFH) and Al Ahli United Bank is based on eight key considerations such as feasibility of the new banking entity and its added value to KFH, the banking system and the national economy, reports Al-Rai daily.
The Central Bank explained that necessary study will be conducted within the framework of the provisions of law No. 32/1968 If the procedures referred to KFH’s disclosures are completed by applying for the required approval. This study will cover various factors relating to the feasibility of creating a banking entity, the risks and benefits of the merger, the positive and negative effects on the bank’s position and the interests of its shareholders and depositors, as well as its commitment to legal aspects, financial safety standards and the expected impact on financial stability, among other factors.
