Senior oil company officials under probe for embezzlement – report
Tough measures vowed for ‘wrong place’ parking
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 18: The Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) has submitted a comprehensive report to the State Audit Bureau on the results of internal investigations conducted by the company which revealed the suspicious conflict of interest and prejudice of public money, reports Al-Rai daily.
The report shows the involvement of an Indian official, a Kuwaiti manager and a former senior oil official. The daily added, all legal measures have been taken and the file has been referred to Public Prosecution.
Violators face tough law:
Farwaniya Governor Sheikh Faisal Al Humoud Al-Sabah has issued directives to concerned authorities to apply tough measures against violations related to parking of heavy vehicles and buses belonging to companies and individuals at Jaber International Stadium, as well as parking lots at the cooperative societies, schools and spaces within the housing areas in all six governorates.
Sheikh Faisal affirmed that such vehicles could be involved in security-related crimes, noting several complaints have been filed by people in relation to the rate of annoyance caused by heavy-duty vehicles and buses, besides creating traffic jam and damaging pavements. He called for serious coordination between the governorate and the General Traffic Department through campaign initiatives that cover all areas to remove the number plates of violating vehicles.
He also requested the involvement of private sector in establishing special parking lots for heavyduty vehicles and heavy equipment for construction activities, in addition to housing units for the drivers of heavy duty vehicles, and a central market.
Is it fit to eat?:
The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition promptly responded to a video clip showing shawarma and foodstuff being transported in an unhealthy manner, reports Al-Rai daily.
Food inspectors from the authority seized the food and referred it to the competent authorities to determine its suitability for human consumption. The Director of the Inspection Department at the authority Ali Al-Kandari said the inspectors responded to a video clip which was documented and posted by a Kuwaiti and legal action shall be taken in accordance with the laws in force if the concerned party has violated the law.
Al-Kandari added the restaurant referred to in the clip and other restaurants are strictly controlled by the inspection teams of the authority.
He added, the violating restaurant may be punished and the punishment includes immediate closure and a fine ranging from KD 50,000 to KD 100,000, if it is proven the food was unsuitable for human consumption.
Transformers stolen:
The Ministry of Electricity and Water has resorted to emergency operation of a number of underground water wells
in Shaqaya pending resolution of the crisis which has resulted from the theft of 135 power transformers that were used to pump the water from these wells, reports Al-Rai daily.
Informed ministry sources said the total value of the stolen transformers is KD 675,000 and the the ministry is preparing a tender for the purchase of new transformers to replace the stolen machines to operate the rest of the wells. The workers, the ministry said, working for the power transmission networks were able to run 10 wells across 11 kV power lines.
The sources explained these wells mix distilled water with brackish water for irrigation purposes, to water the gardens and wash cars and their homes and also as drinking water for camels and sheep. Woman electrocuted: A Kuwaiti woman died on a farm in Umm Naqa, reports Al-Rai daily.
The mishap happened with the woman was on a visit to the farm with her mother and reportedly was electrocuted when she stepped on an electric cable nearby.
A security source said the mother called the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry and the woman was rushed to the Jahra Hospital but the doctors failed to revive her.
Youth held
with drugs:
A Kuwaiti citizen in his 20s was arrested in Jahra area in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia including a lamp used for consuming drugs, says Al-Seyassah.
According to security sources,
Jahra securitymen were patrolling the area when they suspected a motorist and ordered him to pull over. While speaking to him, they noticed his disoriented state. They checked his vehicle and found the aforementioned items.
He was arrested and referred to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action.
1 hurt in cylinder blast:
The exhaust fan at a restaurant in Salmiya went up in flames without causing injuries or loss of life. Firefighters extinguished the fire before it spread to other areas.
Meanwhile, fire broke out in a house in Dahiyat Mubarak AlAbdullah when a gas cylinder exploded causing injuries to an Asian household worker who was rushed to a nearby hospital.
