Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has added eight new conditions for registering trademarks, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting sources.

Sources disclosed the ministry specified names which must not be included in a trademark, indicating Allah or God is on top of the list of banned names.

Sources said the numbers which are known to refer to immoral issues are also banned, while the commercial name could be the full name of the owner and it could consist of numbers.

Sources added the conditions included preventing the use of names which can be deceiving or contravene traditions and public morals. Sources pointed out the names should be recorded in Arabic and in English with the same meaning according to Oxford English-Arabic Dictionary.

Sources went on to say the name must not be used in the commercial log with the same business previously. The commercial name must

not contrast the actual business in case the name means a business itself.

The commercial name can be preceded or followed by numbers except the consequent numbers. The name must not include search engines or social media sites included in this decision.

The name must not be identical to a registered brand or trademark unless the person who coined the name is the same businessperson who owns the previously registered brand.

The implementation of this new decision entails the cancellation of decision No. 195/2012.

The Global Competitiveness Report 2018 released recently by World Economic Forum recorded the improvement of Kuwait’s ranking
