KUWAIT CITY, Oct 21: “At a time when students in advanced countries are busy preparing for scientific researches or thinking of a challenging scientific researches that can distinguish them, we see our students busy memorizing and listening to several pages taught in Kuwaiti schools just to pass exams,” Dr Ghader Aseri wrote for Al-Qabas daily.

“Education today is the tool needed to make monumental change in the situation of our backward developing societies. Today, our curricula still deal with the conventional dictation that relies on the control of a teacher and review, which is deemed war against criticism, creativity, scientific analysis, and opposing views.

“In the wake of change witnessed in our modern education, we should look at the step Kuwait should take to ensure that our local educational situation matches the global requirements. Although we are rated 96 out of 130 countries in the official education index , it is binding on us now to put down a contingency plan for education renaissance without political flattery in selecting education decision makers”.

The Ministry of Finance issued a circular to all official bodies on the importance of rationalizing expenditures for hospitality, gifts and travel, reports Annahar daily.

The circular reiterated the need to limit official missions and forums in a way that is in favor of the public.

Meanwhile, sources said the monitoring bodies issued tough directives to all official bodies asking them not to float any tender before making sure the fund is available. Sources explained this decision was issued to prevent the cancellation of tenders which could cause enormous losses for the State in the form of compensation for the affected parties.

The Industrial Engineers Society (IES) at Kuwait University organized the ‘Around the World Competition’ presented by Dr Ahmed Al-Rashdan for students at the College of Engineering and Petroleum.

The competition included questions in a scientific context covering information about countries around world.

The society aims to highlight the specialization of industrial engineering, support the industrial engineer in his field and serve the engineering and petroleum students by organizing scientific, academic and recreational activities.
