KUWAIT CITY, Nov 10: Al Bayan Bilingual School (BBS), Kuwait’s leading university preparatory academic institution, hosted on Nov 1 its annual Pearl Model United Nations Conference (Pearl MUN), which took place at the school’s Hawally campus over a three-day period starting Nov 1 till Nov 3. MUN is a simulation of the United Nations, whereby students have the opportunity to represent different countries, and meet in various commissions, to debate resolutions which may help improve our world.

The theme “An Idea That’s Time Has Come”, we see in our modern world that time flies very quickly. People think of ideas every second, and when the time of that idea comes, if handled with care, it will flourish! We are in the age of entrepreneurial and innovative advancements, and we believe that delegates attending this conference are the foundation of our rapidly-advancing world.

Participating students had the opportunity to dialogue on political and economic issues such as the issue of drugs and human trafficking though the deep web, protecting major bodies of water (oceans, seas, etc) from pollution, stopping the ongoing genocide against Burma’s Muslim population, and finding a diplomatic approach to end the war in Yemen.

The conference was launched with an opening ceremony in the school theater, at which BBS History Teacher and MUN Director, Rajeh Mahmoud, welcomed all the delegates and participating schools, followed by a speech by keynote speaker and honorary guest Mrs Nabila Al Anjari, Founder and General Manager of the Leaders Group. The opening ceremony was attended by School Director, Gustav Gropp, Deputy Director, Maha Kaddoura and High School Principal, Nada Al Kayssi.

BBS History Teacher and MUN Director, Rajeh Mahmoud started his word by explaining the idea of this conference and said: “Welcome to the 16th annual Pearl MUN Conference at BBS. As you all know, MUN is where delegates debate current global issues, and more importantly, come together to find solutions, resolutions, to these issues.” He ended his speech by expressing gratitude to all guests, attendees and participants.

Keynote speaker Mrs Nabila Al Anjari was welcomed to the stage to deliver her speech: “I am honored to be here with you in this conference, it is also with an honor to be talking to you about woman’s right and her political role in the past and nowadays. I was lucky to be in a generation who faced two historical and life changing stages in regards to Kuwaiti and Gulf Woman’s Right. Before and after the right of political participation and I mean before and after the historical regulation in 2005, and about giving her the right to participate, run and vote.” “Please remember that the Kuwaiti woman carried a fantastic role, since the old pearl hunting days and their far traveling trips away from home to trade. No one could ever deny her role.” She added.

The 16th Pearl MUN Conference concluded on Saturday in a closing ceremony that awarded participating students in three categories; the best admin, best chair, and best executive. Each of the eight commissions at the conference gave out awards to the most outstanding and the most entertaining delegates in the commission.

The Conference was powered by KnowledgeOfficer.com and sponsored by Oryx Holding represented by Suman Misra.
