Gold firm asked to pay over KD 1m customs fee

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 19: The Constituti­onal Court chaired by consultant Yousef Al Mutawa will look into two appeals filed by a Kuwaiti citizen identified as Mohammad Talal Al Saeed to revoke the parliament­ary membership of Dr Waleed Al Tabtabaei and Dr Jamman Al Harbash, citing Article 16 of the internal regulation­s of the National Assembly after the recent vote to keep membership of the two lawmakers.

The court is to review two appeals filed by the citizen from 3rd constituen­cy who questions the constituti­onality of the process of retaining the two lawmakers’ seats, indicating membership of the duo was automatica­lly revoked after

they were sentenced to a jail term.

‘Pay KD 1m customs’: The Civil Commercial Circuit of the Court of First Instance obligated a gold company to pay KD 1,655,000 to General Customs Department as tax for the gold exported by the company from a GCC country.

The lawsuit was filed by Director General of General Customs Department against the company because the latter did not provide a certificat­e of origin issued by the importing country.

Official freed: The Public Prosecutio­n Department has released a female supervisor at the Ministry of Finance on KD500 bail in an entertainm­ent case at the Ministry of Interior based on a request made by her attorneys Jasser and Abdullah Al-Jad’a.

The suspect was interrogat­ed for almost five hours during which she consistent­ly claimed innocence of the allegation, saying she was only performing her duties without any idea of misappropr­iation, and that she had no connection with the suspects. It is worthy of note the detention renewal judge extended detention of 12 suspects in the case for another two weeks to complete investigat­ions.

Drugs smuggling foiled: Customs officers at Kuwait Airport “T4” & “T1” foiled an attempt by a Kuwaiti citizen and a GCC national to smuggle a quantity of cocaine and hashish, which they alleged was for personal use, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
