Egyptian envoy says ties with Kuwait to remain unaffected

‘Number of deals expected to be sealed’

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 19, (KUNA): Egypt’s Ambassador to Kuwait Tareq El-Qouni said on Monday that “individual agendas” would never succeed in denting ties with Kuwait, after a recent smear campaign targeting a Kuwaiti lawmaker.

Kuwait and Egypt have long shared a strong and tightly-knit relationship, El-Qouni said in a statement.

He appreciated the “positive” comments made by Kuwait’s top lawmaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim and his Egyptian counterpart Ali Abdel Aal as they sought to allay concerns that the uproar will have no bearing on bilateral ties.

The Egyptian diplomat went on to cite his meeting with Kuwait’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled AlJarallah ahead of ministerial level talks next month.

On the next round of talks, he revealed that a number of deals are expected to be sealed in a testament to the camaraderie the two nations enjoy.

Kuwait and Egypt have long enjoyed an impenetrable bond that has stood the test of time, the Gulf state’s top lawmaker Marzouq AlGhanim said on Sunday, against the backdrop of a smear campaign targeting a Kuwaiti MP.

“The historic ties shared between Kuwait and Egypt need no further affirmation,” Al-Ghanim told the press, pointing out that lawmaker Safaa Al-Hashem is “entitled to her own views.”

Some remarks directed at AlHashem strayed away from proper decorum, Kuwait’s chief lawmaker explained, saying that such abrasive rhetoric was totally unacceptable.

“We all reserve the right to express our views but we need not to lose sight of the special amity between Kuwaitis and Egyptians,” he

went on to say, emphasizing that the recent events will have no bearing on bilateral relations.

Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah has affirmed that relations between the Kuwaiti and Egyptian peoples cannot be strained with trivialities.

The deputy minister made the assertion in a statement to KUNA,

reacting to some rhetoric on social media.

These relations have historic roots, he has affirmed, adding that the two peoples disregard any “harmful rhetoric uttered by persons who represent only themselves.”

“We are in contact with our brothers in Egypt to tackle any misunderstanding.”
