Kohl, Central Connecticu­t St top Florida A&M 89-75

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica, Nov 19, (AP): Tyler Kohl had 20 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists and Central Connecticu­t State never trailed in its 89-75 win over Florida A&M on Sunday night in the Jamaica Classic.

Kohl made a career-high 10 free throws on 11 attempts and Jamir Coleman had 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Deion Bute scored 14 and Ian Krishnan added 13 for CCSU (3-2).

Coleman made a 3-pointer to open the scoring and Bute scored six points as the Blue Devils took a 13-2 lead less than five minutes in. Bute’s layup with 4:29 left in the first half made it 37-14.

FAMU (2-2) used a 15-4 run – during which CCSU went 0 for 3 from the field and committed three turnovers – to trim its deficit to 74-65 with 3:35 to play but got no closer.

Justin Ravenel led the Rattlers with 14 points and Rod Melton scored 13. Ravenel made 11-of-14 free throws but just 1 of 14 from the field, including 1 of 8 from 3-point range.

In Bimini, Bahamas, Greg Lee scored 17 points and Damiyne Durham hit a 3-pointer with five seconds left to help CSU Bakersfiel­d beat Weber State 68-67 on Sunday night in the championsh­ip game of the Junkanoo Jam.

The Lions (5-0) pulled away in the middle of the second half, going on a 17-4 run to turn a 32-all tie into a 13-point lead with 8:12 left. Loyola Marymount had its largest lead at 5642 with 2:37 left.

In Bimini, Bahamas, Shawn Roundtree hit the go-ahead runner with 2.9 seconds left to help Central Michigan overcome a 13-point deficit and beat San Jose State 76-74 in the Junkanoo Jam on Sunday.

Kevin McKay had 24 points, 12 rebounds and four steals, and Roundtree scored four of his 16 points in the final 16 seconds.

Roundtree’s pair of free throws gave the Chippewas (3-1) a 74-73 lead with 16 seconds left. Brae Ivey split a pair of free throws to tie it for the Spartans (1-3) with eight seconds left.

San Jose State went on a 15-0 run to lead 63-50 on Isaiah Nichols’ 3-pointer with 9:36 left in the game. Central Michigan outscored the Spartans 2611 from there with Roundtree scoring nine during that span.

In Nassau, Bahamas, Colbey Ross scored 25 points and Pepperdine rallied from an 18-point deficit in the second half and beat Miami (Ohio) 86-80 in the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase on Sunday.

The Redhawks led 46-33 at halftime and extended the margin to 60-42 with 16:12 remaining on a 3-pointer by Nike Sibande. A little more than three minutes later, Eric Cooper Jr, freshman Kessler Edwards and Darnell Dunn buried 3s in succession, Ross added a layup and Pepperdine (3-2) reduced the deficit to 65-58.

In Bimini, Bahamas, Lavelle Scottie scored 15 points, Ryan Swan added 14 and A.J. Walker hit a big 3-pointer down the stretch to lead Air Force to a 65-62 victory in the Bimini Jam on Sunday.

Walker had just six points in the game but his first 3-pointer gave Air Force its largest lead of 14 points at 46-32 with 13:50 remaining and his second trey came with 1:48 to go for a 63-59 lead. Triston Simpson sank a 3 with 1:12 remaining to cut the deficit to 63-62, but the Coyotes missed their final two shots while the Falcons added two free throws.

In Montego Bay, Jamaica, Chris Clemons scored 34 points on 12-of-23 shooting, Cory Gensler was 10 of 13 with 25 points and Campbell beat Austin Peay 78-72 Sunday at the Jamaica Classic.

Both teams shot 51 percent, but the Fighting Camels (3-2) made 12 of 24 3-pointers, led by Gensler’s five, to the Governors’ 6 of 21.

DeMar DeRozan had 20 points, and Rudy Gay added 19 to help San Antonio snap a three-game slide.

Kevin Durant scored 26 points and Klay Thompson had 25 for Golden State.
