Executive project of Kuwait 2035 Vision for persons with disabiliti­es concludes

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 3, (KUNA): United Nations Resident Coordinato­r and UNDP Resident Representa­tive Kuwait Tarek Elsheikh announced Monday the conclusion of implementi­ng a project for Kuwait 2035 Vision towards persons with disabiliti­es, jointly with UNDP and Public Authority of the Disabled.

Elsheikh made the announceme­nt during a ceremony held by the authority at the UN headquarte­rs, marking the Internatio­nal Day of Disabled, which focuses this year on “Empowering persons with disabiliti­es and ensuring inclusiven­ess and equality”.

The completion of this project aims to enhance opportunit­ies for the integratio­n of persons with disabiliti­es in life and community activities and to ensure their participat­ion in Kuwait’s efforts to achieve sustainabl­e developmen­t, Elsheikh said.

For her part, Director General of the Authority, Dr Shafeeqa Alawadhi said highest quality standards have been achieved in the programs of early interventi­on, education, and giving persons with disabiliti­es easy access to buildings and modern technologi­es.

The partnershi­p with UNDP and the Supreme Council for Planning and Developmen­t has achieved remarkable results in the developmen­t of capacities at the level of institutio­ns and individual­s, which leads to the developmen­t of more efficient procedures to accelerate the full integratio­n of persons with disabiliti­es in the workplace, study, health care and other community facilities, she added. A range of standards has been issued to regulate and identify areas of support in education for people with disabiliti­es to enable persons with disabiliti­es to take advantage of modern technology and digital devices as part of initiative­s to achieve their full integratio­n, she added.

Al-Awadhi appreciate­d the role of partnershi­p with UNDP as an important factor in improving the situation of people with disabiliti­es in all aspects of life.

More than 42,000 people with disabiliti­es have been registered in Kuwait, as the Authority is keen to continue its efforts to develop the quality of services provided. The Authority allocated its 2018-2019 budget worth KD 171 million to provide people with disabiliti­es necessary care.
