‘Door to Arabs, refugees to shut’

‘Europe headed for crucial polls’

- — Compiled by Zaki Taleb

“All indications are that European elections in May next year will be crucial and decisive,” columnist, the director general and the editor-in-Chief of the Sawt (Voice) Al-Arab Satellite TV Channel

Dr Hesham Al-Diwan wrote for Al-Shahed daily. “If the extremist rightist parties achieve power in the influential countries of Europe, life will change in Europe.

“These indications signify calls for the return of the Anti-Foreign Refugees and Immigrants by the extremist rightist currents, although at one time the latter had shown compassion in dealing with the foreigners in general and the Arabs and Muslims in particular and this can be attributed to the unacceptable picture that has been shown by the Islamic State (IS) or the so-called ‘DAESH’ terrorist organization in the name of Islam.

“Given the above, we expect that if the extremist rightist parties come to power in the influential European states, the life in this part of the world will change.

“In other words, this prospective reality will take the world to the brink of the Third World War and as such it will be difficult to hold a comparison between a world that has fallen between the jaws of the Cold War and the world led by the Extreme Right.

“In 2008, far-right parties from European countries in the Belgian city of Antwerp announced the establishment of a new organization aimed at fighting what it called ‘Islamization’ of Europe. The new organization, the Cities Against Islamization, was presented to the journalists by the head of the FLM party, Philip Dewinter, Austrian Heinz Christian Strasse and the head of the French Zas Abor regional movement Robert Spieler.

“Meanwhile, the representatives of the right-wing German party Die Repubblicaner, the British National Party and Italian and Danish parties also participated in the launch of the said organization.

“For his part, an official from ‘The Flamingo Interest Party Pert Dibi was quoted as saying ‘the opening of a new mosques in the cities like Anvi must be stopped’. He further added that the arrival of the Muslims must also be stopped, and Islamic commercial stores must respect the Belgium law on the level of Green Health or on the level of the social laws, otherwise, these stores should be closed down”.

“He pointed out that similar movements will be organized in the coming months in Rotterdam (Netherlands), Paris, London and Madrid.

“As a matter of fact, this Rightist Current, adopts a philosophy that is totally different from the other global rightist currents. They are intellectuals but they are extremists and fanatics, and they work according to the principle of dividing people based on religion and race. Some believe that the extermination of those who are not like them and do not hold their beliefs is safer for them and for their countries and societies.

“Not only that some of them call for annihilation of all of those who are not like them and don’t bear their beliefs for the sake of maintaining their own security and that of both their countries and communities.

“As such, for them, many people including the Muslims and many of the Eastern Christians must vanish, not only from their countries, but from our planet.

“Such being the case, we expect following the elections in question, Europe will be different from the Europe which we know – Europe which had opened its doors to the Arab refugees and those who had fled the persecution, backwardness in their countries and the danger of the influential peoples in these countries.”

“Day before yesterday, the man who is known to all of the Kuwaitis, passed away. The Kuwaitis as they are accustomed still owe to this man of good deeds and appreciation, hence, when they heard the news about the death of the former president of the United States of America, George Herbert Walker Bush Sr, the friend of the State of Kuwaitis prefer to call him in view of his major role in terms of the liberation of the State of Kuwait from the claws of the invaders, then we found how the sadness had engulfed all of them,” columnist Abdurrahman Al-Awwad wrote for Al-Sabah daily.

“Yes, the Kuwaitis and the entire world, still remember the decision that was taken by the late president on Jan 16, 1991 to form the international coalition of troops to liberate the State of Kuwait and drive out the Iraqi troops from the country.

“However, this happened, only after the United Nations and the world spared no efforts to persuade the invading troops to withdraw voluntarily from the State of Kuwait, but in vain.

“Apart from the above, all Kuwaitis recall the good news conveyed by the late president Bush Sr to the Kuwaitis, during his address to the American Congress, the American people and the world at large on Feb 26, 1991 in the presence of the then Kuwaiti ambassador to the United States of America Sheikh Saud Nasser Al-Sabah in his historical speech in which he declared that the State of Kuwait was totally free from the invading troops.

“Consequently, the State of Kuwait reserves the right to be sad for the departure of this man, ‘The Friend of the State of Kuwait’ who put all might at his disposal to free the State of Kuwait from the jaws of the heathenish aggression which was adamant to destroy the State of Kuwait and eradicate its name from history, but Almighty Allah the most gracious put the entire world at the disposal of Kuwait to challenge this despotism.”

“A huge archaeological discovery of human life has been made in Sabiyyah area dating back to more than 7,000 years, in the region of Al-Khairan where human carcasses were discovered in tombs dating back to 2,500 years BC, and recently a spectacular discovery was announced by the sea in the east of the country dating back to 7,500 years,” columnist and former Deputy Director-General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Iqbal Al-Ahmad wrote for Al-Qabas daily.

“The experts have described this discovery as astounding, because it dates back to the idea of human culture at the end of the Stone Age, which paved the way for the emergence of the oldest civilization in history, the Sumerian Civilization.

“What was discovered in the sea, as it was announced, was said to change the way we think about human civilization, and may alter the earlier beliefs about the beginning of the evolving human civilization.

“The temple has been found as a large area of buildings, suggesting city planning, which is very amazing in a location on this date.

“In addition, 10 structures and 16,000 pottery pieces were found, indicating that this is the largest settlement of the Obaid Civilization that has been found in the Arabian Peninsula so far.

“The strange thing is that these huge archaeological discoveries were not interacted with the official authority in Kuwait in the necessary manner, and in a size commensurate with its importance on the map of monuments and civilizations.

“What we got is a statement from here and there, from someone or an official, a press statement or a television interview. It would have been better to hold a large press conference, preceded by a huge advertising campaign inviting all the news agencies and all relevant international agencies to announce this great discovery, so that interaction is at the event level.”

“I do not understand why some members of Parliament insist on grilling HH the Prime Minister over and over again, considering the previous interpellations aimed at bringing down the government failed six times – the number of times the Prime Minister has been grilled,” columnist

Abdul-Muhsin Muhammad Al-Husseini wrote for

Al-Anba daily. “MP Shuaib Al-Muweiziri submitted the ‘seventh’ grilling against the prime minister despite the advice HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah gave to the National Assembly during the opening of the third legislative round that MPs should grill the concerned ministers and there is no point in grilling the premier unless the matter concerns him directly.

“For instance, Al-Muweiziri wants to grill the prime minister on the destruction caused by the heavy rainfall which the country witnessed a fortnight ago. This came despite the statements issued by the minister in charge – the minister of public works, affirming the ministry’s readiness for the rainy season this year.

“In this case, the MP should grill the minister of public works, not the prime minister. In addition, the MP should have respected the cooperation atmosphere between the two authorities and avoid destabilizing this atmosphere by taking unnecessary steps.

“Nonetheless, the previous interpellations of the prime minister proved that the agendas set forth by the MPs are flimsy and unsubstantial. We hope these interpellations will end and the MPs will stop repeating the same interpellations which seem random and boring to the public. The people love to see the Parliament and the government working together for the supreme welfare of the country.”

❑ ❑ ❑ “In the American Congress, there is something known as hearing session or rather congressional hearing, which is held based on the request of the Congress to probe a certain matter via a committee that is formed within the Congress. This committee then questions the concerned officials,” Mohammad Huza’a Al-Mutairi wrote for Al-Qabas daily.

“These sessions could be concluded within a short period of time depending on the information gathered, but it could sometimes take long for the session to end. However, the main objective behind this kind of session is the ease with which a certain agenda can be probed without any media fuss fueled by partisanship or prejudice like the way it happens in our parliament. This creates uneasiness for the concerned official and even leads to unnecessary steps taken by such officials to avoid being in the spotlight.

“We are aware that our constitutional segment on interpellations will not change, but it will be better if we benefit from other parliamentary practices. The goal of interpellation is to set the record straight, not to seek political mileage through it. Several times we had called for gradual handling of issues in parliament. What is the point in jumping directly to grilling without going through the facts and evidences, and then eventually the whole episode becoming a mockery due to the flimsy argument presented by the grillers?”

“It is now glaring that the government has started losing its homogeneity, considering the resignation of a minister, while another minister has submitted his resignation and rumor has it that the third one is on the line,” The’ar Al-Rashidi wrote for Al-Anba daily.

“It seems the executive authority is now facing deserved reshuffling, or at least, filling up vacant portfolios which will be the product of appointments based on personalities. However, the solution is very simple and does not seem a scenario that will happen soon. The prevailing situation, not just due to the spate of resignations, requires drastic Cabinet reshuffle.

“In an article I wrote in August, I spoke about imminent reshuffling which could affect four portfolios. However, I did not anticipate the scenario of successive resignations. Anyway, it is clear that minor reshuffling will happen soon.”
