KUWAIT CITY, Dec 4, (KUNA): Director of the Humanitarian Assistance at the German Federal Foreign Office, Thomas Zahneisen said that Kuwait is considered one of the most important countries in the field of humanitarian donations.

During a luncheon held at the German Embassy in Kuwait, Zahneisen expressed his country readiness to cooperate with Kuwait on the humanitarian field.

A meeting was held with the International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) with the promise of continuing coordination to unify visions and efforts in humanitarian work, he proceeded.

Germany, which is now one of the top donating countries with humanitarian aids reached 1.5 billion Euro, is closely monitoring the humanitarian situation in Syria, Yemen, Africa, and Palestine, he noted.

On the other hand, he referred to the Kuwait and German contributions to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) with 50 million Euro for each, stressing the fact that both countries are working from a humanitarian prospective not a political one.

As for the Syrian refugees, Zanheisen said that his country and Kuwait were both interested in finding a solution for this case through helping the refugees either by providing them with the necessary supplies, or helping those who want to return to their homeland.

With regard to the Yemeni issue, Thomas Zahneisen pointed out that the situation in the Yemen needed a political solution by getting all parties involved back into negotiation.

Meanwhile, Kuwait Food Bank has launched a largescale project to meet the needs of more than 1,000 orphans in Kuwait and abroad, which includes sponsorship and food aid.

The endeavor also entails comprehensive healthcare free of charge, in addition to providing the children with household necessities, the Kuwait-based charity said in a statement on Tuesday.

Urging avid philanthropists in the country to contribute to the project, the organization’s director general Salem AlHamar said the primary objective is to lift the hapless kids out of penury.

He went on to extol the merits of orphanage, saying it was among the most generous of deeds, encouraging the general public to visit the charity’s website at www.kuwaitfoodbank.org for more information on the project.
