Kuwait embassy in Belgium holds charity event for 2nd year in a row
Bid to help poor and homeless
BRUSSELS, Dec 5, (KUNA): The Embassy of the State of Kuwait organised Tuesday evening its second annual charity event to help the poor and homeless in the Belgian capital.
Jasem Al Budaiwi, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Belgium, EU, NATO and Luxembourg, announced that the fund raising reception was to support the non-profit organisation called UNLESS for providing food and shelter to the hundreds homeless and needy in the Belgian capital.
He expressed his happiness that the embassy of Kuwait was organizing for the second year in a row such an event and added that “It is not our normal job to do this charity work but it adds value to our work.”
“We will continue to support you. We think you are doing a wonderful job,” Al Budaiwi told the UNLESS organisation.
The reception was attended by EU, NATO, Belgian, Arab diplomats as well as members of the European Parliament and businessmen.
Al Budaiwi also welcomed a group of women representing civil societies from Saudi Arabia currently visiting Brussels who were present at the ceremony.
Michelle Sequeira, who runs the UNLESS non-profit organisation, said it provides food and shelter and other basic necessities to the needy at the North (railway) Station four times a week and serves 200 meals. She thanked the Kuwaiti ambassador and his team for organizing the fund raising event .
Speaking to KUNA, Michelle said she came up with the idea of helping the needy two years ago after she used to see these homeless people at the North Station in Brussels and decided to do something to help the people.
They also provide shower and clothwashing facilities to the needy at their office, she said.
Lina Aburous m managing director for Euraffex, a public relations and communications agency that organized the event, noted that Ambassador Al Budaiwi “gives a different meaning to diplomacy.”
She urged the invitees to donate generously to this charity effort to “have less and less hungry people and refugees.”
Ambassador of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Brussels, Ismat Jahan, told KUNA that it is a “wonderful and important fund raising initiative by Ambassador Al Budaiwi of Kuwait and his embassy staff.”
Raoul Delcorde, Director of Middle East and North Africa in the Belgian foreign ministry, congratulated Ambassador Al Budaiwi for “this beautiful event that he has organized.”
