Kuwait member of WFP executive board for 4th time

-

ROME, Dec 6, (KUNA): Kuwait won membership in the executive council of the World Food Pogramme for the fourth time and the second consecutive time, for a two-year tenure.

Kuwait’s election came during the WFP 160th session, due to conclude on Friday. Its renewed membership is valid till December 31, 2020.

Yousef Juhail, Kuwait’s permanent delegate at the FAO, the Food and Agriculture Organization, said in a statement to KUNA that Kuwait’s re-election depicted its high-profile status and partnership with other nations in the field of humanitarian aid, under leadership of His Highness the Amir.

Such success boosts Kuwait’s contributions to mapping out and guiding humanitarian schemes to serve the marginalized, the weak and the poor throughout the world, in line with the sustainable development goals, honored by the international community, according to the 2030 agenda, he added.

Kuwait has been a member of the WFP executive board since January 1, 2016. It had chaired the 36-member council during the past session ending last February.

The WFP advocates the theme that each woman and baby must be able to have food any time for a healthy life. The program depends on voluntary donations, in coordination with the FAO, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and other stakeholders such as governments, UN agencies and NGOs.
