ASCC’s centre weaves interesting stories through ‘The Event of A Thread’
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 8: The Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre’s Fine Arts Centre recently inaugurated an exhibition namely ‘The Event of A Thread’ by the Germany-based Institute for International Relations (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) in collaboration with the German Embassy in Kuwait. The event is the Premiere of an international touring exhibition that focuses on textiles; exploring the significance, origin, and mysteries of the thread work.
The exhibition highlights complex ways in which artists work with textiles, where art encounters handicraft, traditions meet the present day, and local knowledge intersects with global relationships. Visitors will also learn about the traditional textile techniques that were appropriated, abstracted, relocated and brought back to life by the artists. So this is an exhibition particularly interesting for a country like Kuwait with its age-old tradition of Saduweaving. The exhibition will continue until January 12th, 2019 at the Fine Arts Centre Wing.
The Fine Arts Centre aims to create high-quality exhibitions, whether in partnership with internationally renowned artists from around the world or in-house to validate and promote the work of young and Kuwaiti artists, serving as a springboard for the local arts community. It is part of the Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre, developed by the Office of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait with the vision of delivering world-class exhibitions and public educational programmes to the people of Kuwait. It is working on facilitating the exchange of knowledge and the development of critical, creative, and interpretive thinking skills.
