Al-Salami of Saudi Arabia re-named chairman of Arab Parliament
Deputies, heads of permanent committees also elected for two-year term
CAIRO, Dec 8, (KUNA): Dr Meshaal Al-Salami, of Saudi Arabia, on Saturday was re-elected, uncontested, President of the Arab Parliament for a second consecutive tenure.
This came during a special session, held at the Arab League headquarters, during which Al-Salami retained the post in voting. Deputies and heads of permanent committees were also elected for a two-year term, according to the parliament constituent law.
Those elected as the president deputies were Saad Al-Jamal, Egypt, Rashed AlShamsi, Oman, Abdul Rahman Al-Said, Sudan, and Adel Al-Asoumi, Bahrain.

cial affairs, Bakir Othman as deputy, Nabil Al-Andalosi as president of the committee of legal and legislative affairs and human rights, Dalal bin Zayed as deputy, in addition to Aisha bin Samnoud as head of the committee of social affairs, education, culture, woman and youth, with Nour Eddine Al-Marabti as deputy.
Speaking at a news conference after the voting, Al-Salami affirmed that the parliament would continue backing Arab issues, namely the Palestinian cause.
Shedding some light on the parliament latest accomplishments, he noted establishment of the Palestine Committee, devising plans to address diverse issues such as Jerusalem, the Israeli-built “racist fence and recurring aggression on the Palestinian people.”
Moreover, the parliament has established partnerships with legislative assemblies worldwide.
In the next two years, the Arab Parliament will focus on combating terrorism, confronting foreign intervention in the Arabs’ domestic affairs and consolidating the nation security.
