Around 12,000 declare assets, anti-corruption body discloses
KCB lends, grants KD 23.8 mln for housing
Low clouds hugging the buildings in Kuwait City. (Musaed Al-Osaimi – KUNA) KUWAIT CITY, Dec 8, (KUNA): Kuwait’s anti-corruption body said on Saturday that a total of 12,000 personal disclosure statements have been turned in this year, which is equivalent to 95 percent of people subject to the law.
Kuwait’s anti-corruption watchdog disclosed the information to mark the UN’s “International Anti-Corruption Day”, which falls on Dec 9 of each year, it said in a statement.
Such initiatives are significant given the fact that corruption continues to run rampant all over the globe, the statement added, urging the international community to the take the measures needed to crack down on the social ill.
The total number of property loans and grants given by Kuwait Credit Bank in November amounted to KD 23.8 million ($78 million), KCB said in a statement Saturday.
The real estate portfolio’s total loans amounted to KD 119.5 million ($393 million) in November, the bank said in a press statement, adding loans for construction of private units reached KD 1.54 million ($5 million).
Furthermore, KCB mentioned lending around KD 14.8 million ($48.6) loans for building government units, and about KD 4.4 million ($14.4 million) for house purchasing.
It also lent KD 159,000 ($522,000) for private housing expansion projects, KD 975,000 ($3.2 million) for expanding government houses, and KD 1.85 million ($6 million) to citizens of special needs.
Overall loans from the KCB portfolio (for maintenance and expansion projects) amounted to KD 80,000 ($263,000), said KCB.
Palestinian Minister of Public Works and Housing Mufeed Al-Hassayna on Thursday commended Kuwait’s backing to the Palestinian people.
The Palestinian government received today a financial transfer from Kuwait estimated at $4.5 million to fund some infrastructure projects and a hospital in the Gaza Strip, Al-Hassayna said in a statement.
He expressed his gratitude to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti government and Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) for supporting Palestinians.
There have been communications with all international and Arab bodies regarding the infrastructure projects and the reconstruction so as to alleviate sufferings of the Palestinian people, he added.
