Toastmasters and the community hold blood donation drive
If there is a need which goes beyond nations and languages, it is called blood. When a group of concerned citizens come forward to donate blood to serve the community, it goes beyond all borders.
Toastmaster members and well-wishers responded to humanity’s clarion call by donating blood at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital recently. Inspired by the president of the club – Yusuf Baniyan who is a regular donor and holds this cause very close to his heart, the initiative was supported by other members of the Toastmaster community in Kuwait.
The entire administrative process including the actual donation lasted only 30 minutes, right from filling the entrance form to having the blood pressure and haemoglobin levels being checked. 12 new members including 2 ladies came forward to stand up for the cause and donated voluntarily. Each donor was given a certificate along with a membership form to actively participate in

Don Bosco Toastmasters is one of the oldest clubs in Kuwait holding their meetings in English besides which there are other clubs available for those who want to speak in Hindi and Malayalam languages. Toastmasters develops communication and leadership skills among its participants through many club and social activities, which in return give back society what we take from it, developing our leadership skills.
Many anxieties of the donors are common fears which prevent them from donating blood. “Awareness and inspiration can help overcome these easily”, quipped TM Christy ( The Division Director of Division F.) Eligibility for donating blood: 1. Above 18 years of age with weight more than 45 kg
2. Should have been in Kuwait for at least 6 months before donation day (as a precaution against endemic infections).
3. Should not be suffering from any diseases or taking any medication.
Despite all the scientific and technological advancements in medicine, scientists have not yet found a substitute for blood and have not been able to manufacture it synthetically. The human body continues to be the only source for it. Every year on June 14, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day ( WBDD). The event established in 2004 by WHO serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving action of giving blood.
