German FM’s 2-day official visit to tackle boosting bilateral ties
Talks to also focus on regional, int’l issues
BERLIN, Dec 15, (KUNA): German Foreign Minister Heiko Josef Maas, will begin his official visit to Kuwait Sunday, the first of his kind since he took office in March.
During the two-day visit, Maas will meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled AlHamad Al-Sabah to discuss means of enhancing bilateral relations and to go over the latest developments in the international arena.
In a statement to KUNA, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Germany Najib Al-Bader welcomed the visit and stressed importance on boosting bilateral relations in all fields.
Choosing Kuwait as the first country to visit in the region since Maas took office “reflects on the position the German side places for the role played by Kuwait in promoting regional and international security and peace”, Al-Bader said.
The visit talks will also focus on a number of regional and international issues, as well as discuss enhancing coordination and cooperation in international humanitarian affairs, he added.
Al-Bader said that the visit also comes within the framework of seeking further strategic partnership between Kuwait and Germany, pointing out that Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid will hold political, economic, trade, health and education talks with Maas.
Ambassador Al-Bader also referred to the “advanced stage” witnessed in the bilateral relations, describing Germany as “an important strategic partner” of Kuwait.
He also stressed the importance of Germany to Kuwait’s investment activity, as Germany is the first destination for Kuwaiti investments in the public and private sectors in Europe. Adding Kuwait is the first Arab country to invest in Germany since the 1970s.
Kuwait now is one of the most prominent investors in Germany in the public and private sectors, Al-Bader said. Adding the volume of investments reached 35 billion euros, making Kuwait in first place of the size of investments in the European Union.
Al-Bader expressed hope that Germany will contribute to the success of (New Kuwait 2035) vision, through its active and direct participation in the projects to be launched in Kuwait via its leading companies.
