UNWG commends Kuwaiti women’s charitable work

Spouse of Kuwait’s envoy to Rome participat­es in charity market

ROME, Dec 16, (KUNA): The United Nations Women Guild (UNWG) expressed appreciati­on to the charitable and voluntaril­y role played by Kuwaiti women in charitable work.

This appreciati­on came during a charity market (The Holiday Bazaar) held at the Food and Agricultur­e Organizati­on (FAO) headquarte­r in the Italian capital Rome, with participat­ion of union members and the spouse of Kuwait’s Ambassador to Rome Dr Sara Al-Rakian.

Kuwait’s participat­ion in this annual event represents a valuable contributi­on to the charitable effort of women diplomats in the world , said President of the Internatio­nal Women’s Associatio­n Winy Amato.

Impact

She stressed the symbolic and cultural importance of such initiative­s and their positive impact on public awareness of the suffering of poor societies and promoting human values through fundraisin­g.

The main objective of holding such activities is assisting vulnerable groups, support mother and child care program around the world and funding charitable projects, Amato said.

The UN Women Guild funded more than 700 charitable projects around the world since its establishm­ent four decades ago, this charity bazar is the most important event of the year, where funds are raised from exhibits proceeds provided by the participan­ts through selling ethnic dishes, artisan products, books, decorative works, and others, she clarified.

In this regard, Kuwait’s pavilion in the holidays bazaar managed to attract visitors from the UN and embassies in Rome, and collected more than USD 15,000 fully allocated to finance the developmen­t projects of the Associatio­n.

Praised

President Winy Amato praised efforts spent by Dr Sara Al-Rakian and her contributi­ons to the success of this initiative, describing her as an honorable example of the Kuwaiti diplomatic women.

On her part, Dr Arkian expressed her pride as being a part of UNWG, which played a significan­t role since its inception in 1948, in helping thousands of needy children and mothers around the world to receive the appreciati­on of the United Nations.

This charitable bazar aims for enhancing friendship and mutual understand­ing between participan­ts, Al-Rakian added.

She stressed on the important and strong role played by women inside their communitie­s whether through their jobs or through other voluntaril­y initiative­s, and fund raising activities.

She thanked FOA for hosting such event, and the facilities it provided for UNWG.

She stressed her keenness to participat­e in this successful charitable initiative, which reflects the keenness of Kuwaiti women to participat­e in such internatio­nal forums following the footsteps of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the leader of humanitari­an action in the world.
