18 complaints received against profession of lawyers, journalists and court employees

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 16: Chairman of the Committee Against the Promotion of Profession at the Kuwaiti Lawyers Association, Abdullah Al-Salloum has revealed the committee has received 18 complaints since last April against the profession of lawyers, journalists and court employees, as well as lawyers who are not affiliated to the Association of Lawyers and are practicing their work in flagrant violation of the law of the profession, reports Al-Rai daily.

The issue is too big to be summed up by words in a journalist’s investigation. It requires the diligent follow-up of the competent authorities to put it on the path of correction and treatment because of its importance embodied in the rights of the people that may lose their cases and even pay the price for simply trusting those who they have entrusted. There is no doubt that they are placing their cases in the hands of those who have no connection to the profession.

Al-Salloum pointed out that a number of lawyers registered with the association is close to 5,000 between including nonworking Kuwaitis and GCC citizens, who are entitled to join the association, whose main objectives are regulating the labor market and purifying from those who practice law without permission.

Al-Salloum explained that most of them are people who work in law offices, and exploit the clients, especially the women and the elderly. The client does not know that this process has many dangers.

Speaking of the complaints filed with the association, Al-Salloum spoke of one strange complaint about a lawyer who has nothing to do with the association but is practicing law. Another lawyer, he said, has placed an advert asking to hire lawyers.
