KUWAIT CITY, Dec 24: Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, the Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hind AlSabeeh has requested a piece of plot to establish an independent building for the Central Statistics Administration, reports Al-Qabas daily.

In an address to the Minister of Municipality Affairs, Al-Sabeeh said allocating an area for the construction of an independent building comprising all the staff of the Department is a priority at this stage in order to create a working environment for all employees of the Central Administration of Statistics and to achieve the desired productivity in the work. She stated the number of employees is expected to reach between 600 and 700 in the coming years considering the increase in number of employees and expansion of labor requirements, saying “for several years the Department has not been able to complete the allocation of an appropriate plot of land for the establishment of its independent building or rent an appropriate building that can contain its entire staff, and tried in vain to find an appropriate building to rent several years for that purpose”.

“This became necessary in the context of difficulty in providing additional space within the current building to accommodate all employees, especially as the General Secretariat of Planning is in need of the space being used by the Central Statistics Administration ,” the minister expatiated.

She explained the administration of Statistics is divided into two separate sections, one in the Capital Governorate (the building of the General Secretariat of Planning) and the other in Maidan Hawalli. “This division is causing a lot of delays in the completion of the work, not to mention the high financial cost of renting the census building in Maidan Hawalli. The area allocated to the administration in the Secretariat building does not accommodate all existing employees that keep increasing, which has forced us to involve more than one staff member as a single unit”, she stressed.

Al-Sabeeh confirmed that the administration is about to complete ten major projects, including the Census 2020 and the National Statistical Network for which new employees will be hired. Therefore, the administration will face difficulties in providing accommodation for these employees in the current situation. She pointed out that the State Audit Bureau has recommended that appropriate location should be provided for the census administration and population statistics, because works of the census administration and population statistics cannot be completed in the current situation.

In addition, there is need for parking spaces suitable for the number of staff of the Department. She pointed out that an open land area and buses have been allocated to transport staff to solve their lateness for resumption of duty. She stressed the administration of the Grand Mosque provided very limited parking lots, which was the reason for the resignation or transfer of some employees.

To enable the administrative staff to carry out their work tasks in the desirable manner, Al-Sabeeh hopes to obtain approval of the concerned authorities to allocate land for the establishment of an independent building for the Central Administration of Statistics and to allocate the necessary budget in this regard.
