Al-Salam Society ‘disbanding’ issue dwells in controversial atmosphere
Committed to implementing law
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 24: The issue of dissolving Al-Salam Society dwells in a controversial atmosphere, reports Al-Rai daily.
This happened because the committee that had been appointed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor was unable to liquidate the society.
The Assistant Undersecretary for Financial and Administrative Affairs at the Ministry and head of the Liquidation Committee, Hamad Sayer Al-Enezi, told the daily, the committee was not allowed to start its work, especially since the ministry had notified the association officially last Thursday of the date of its work – of taking legal proceedings against the society.
For his part, Jassem Al-Oun, chairman of the society, told the daily that he received a telephone call from the Director of the Society Dr Nabil Al-Oun informing him that a committee formed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, chaired by an Assistant Undersecretary, were there to take delivery of the society and had backing of the police to enforce it.
Al-Oun added, “I spoke with the chairman of the committee and told him that I was out of Kuwait on a medical trip in Thailand with my parents. I will return to Kuwait at the beginning of the New Year and I am prepared to implement the resolution and hand over the society once I return.
“We have told representatives of the ministry that there was no need to bring the police, because we are not criminals or reject the decision,” he said. “We are committed to implementing the law and the decision must be implemented.”
On the other hand, Al-Enezi explained that taking a police force in the implementation of the decision to dissolve any association “is a legal and customary matter to prove the situation. It was taken during similar procedures after the issuance of decisions to dissolve previous associations.”
Ministry of Finance Undersecretary Saleh Al-Sar’awi affirmed that compensations for 80 people affected by floods caused by the heavy rainfall witnessed in the country last month have been disbursed after fulfilling the necessary requirements, reports Al-Anba daily.
In a statement to the daily, Al-Sar’awi said the compensation covered damaged houses and furniture and partially damaged vehicles, and cases are sorted out individually and payment made immediately after demands are approved.
He explained the value of compensation differs from case to case, and it depends on documented damages incurred, indicating the committee in charge of assessing cases have received about 2,700 applications and sorted them out to ensure their legalitywhether or not they fulfill the necessary requirements set by the committee.
“Compensations will be given within a short period based on directives issued by the Minister of Social, Labor and Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh in her capacity as head of the committee formed to compensate those whose properties were damaged by the floods that hit the country in November”, he noted.
