Jail for twitterati as ruling overturned

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 24: The Public Prosecution ordered the release of Abdullah Al-Jasser, a Kuwaiti who is famous by the name ‘Aboudka’, on KD1,000 bail. He was detained for questioning for maligning Kuwaiti women in a video clip he posted on Snapchat.

Attorney Bashar Al-Nassar filed a case against ‘Aboudka’ for posting the video clip, accusing him of violating public morals.

The prosecution listened to the testimony of the police officer from the Interior Ministry, stating that ‘Aboudka’ maligned Kuwaiti woman in the video clip, thereby, igniting public uproar.

The lawyer argued that the act committed by ‘Aboudka’ is a violation of public morals and punishable by law – three years imprisonment and fine–considering he was involved in a similar crime earlier.

Jail for blogger:

The Court of Appeals cancelled the decision of the Criminal Court that acquitted a blogger involved in a State Security case.

The higher court then sentenced the blogger to three years in prison for offending sisterly countries Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

Earlier, the Public Prosecution charged the blogger with offending sisterly countries – Bahrain and Saudi Arabia – through his posts on his account on social media platform Twitter. He was also accused of misusing his phone.
