Drastic decline seen in extremism, terrorism; ministries win accolades

EPA finds ships violating docking rules

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 24: The rehabilitation of extremist prisoners is an international demand which Kuwait abides by and it has become one of the advanced countries in terms of combating terrorism according to the concerned international institutions, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Perhaps, the efforts exerted by the ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs and Awqaf contributed to the decline of terrorism in the country whether on social networking websites or the number of Kuwaitis joining terrorist organizations .

These efforts reduced the number of complaints on extremism among children filed by families this year by 90 percent according to a knowledgeable source from the Interior Ministry, in addition to lack of sympathy with terrorist organizations through the Internet compared to the situation three years ago.

The programs and mechanisms adopted by the concerned authorities contributed to the protection of youths, who constitute 70 percent of the society, from extremist thought; as well as the rehabilitation of extremist prisoners and those who have gone astray through more than 300 training courses and workshops .

Among those who underwent the rehabilitation program were 23 members of the Peninsula Lions network. However, observers pointed out that the rehabilitation of terrorists does not mean they are guilty but they must be rehabilitated after serving their jail term.

Sources said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is keen on highlighting the role of Kuwait in combating the terrorism and support the rehabilitation of extremists after the application of judicial procedures against them.

In the security field, sources disclosed that the Advisory Committee in the Ministry of Interior has achieved a big leap in the rehabilitation of extremists.

Violations uncovered: The Environment Public Authority (EPA) has uncovered violations in a number of ships docked on the tidal zone at Kuwait Bay in Doha Industrial Area which caused oil deposits in the soil, reports Al-Rai daily.

A team from the Inspection and Supervision Department at EPA, along with the environ-

ment police, rushed to the location soon after the authority received a report on the existence of a digger on the tidal zone.

After inspecting the area, the team discovered some ships anchored on the zone without obtaining a license from EPA while the maintenance and repair works in the ships resulted in oil deposits in the soil.

A case was registered against the digger’s driver for transporting workers to the ships.

The General Department of Customs said three of its employees had acquired jobs on the strength of forged certificates, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The daily added, one of the employees was holding a secondary school certificate attributed to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia while the two others were holding degrees in law allegedly issued by a university in Cairo.

In response to a parliamentary inquiry, it was said the forgery cases were discovered by Ministry of Higher Education and General Department for Education in the Ministry of Education.

Legal action has been initiated against the forgers.

No new names have been added to the list of the socalled ‘Hospitality Case’ of the Ministry of Interior, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting knowledgeable sources.

The same sources affirmed the case will be referred to the Criminal Court after compiling documents and evidences against the suspects.

The sources told the daily, the case is built around two axes – money laundering and embezzling public funds.

The sources said the Prosecution is demanding refunding twice the money that has been embezzled. This is in addition to jail terms for those found guilty.
