KUWAIT CITY, Jan 13: The Indian Ambassador to Kuwait HE Jeeva Sagar hailed the active and effective role played by Indian citizens in Kuwait and various countries where he has served as the country’s representative, reports Al-Nahar daily

On the occasion of the “Expatriates Day”, which was celebrated yesterday in the presence of many members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the country, he affirmed that the Indian community has left a clear impact in every country he has served.

The ambassador highlighted that the presence of ambassadors of the United Kingdom and South Africa is of great and important significance as the two countries have a large Indian communities, and that Mahatma Gandhi had lived there.

Stressed

He stressed that the Indians there held on to their culture and helped in spreading awareness about it based on their belief in the necessity and inevitability of cultural exchange among people and the spread of peaceful co-existence.

Ambassador Jeeva Sagar explained that Mahatma Gandhi himself was an expatriate for a better part of his life and upheld messages of humanity, friendship and peace. This is one of the most important reasons for India’s celebration of the Expatriate Day. Around 28-30 million Indians live around the world as expatriates.

He indicated that the number of Indians in Kuwait has reached about one million, adding that they contribute significantly to the Kuwaiti society, and tell amazing success stories of hard work, struggle and challenging obstacles.

The ambassador thanked the Kuwaiti government and people, led by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, for their support and the confidence they place in the Indian community.
