Check on violations

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 13: Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Undersecretary Fareed Emadi said the committee formed by the Cabinet, whose members are from many authorities, recently discussed ways to curb the rising number of unlicensed mosques (pre-fabricated structures) in some areas, reports Alrai daily.

Speaking to the daily, Emadi clarified the locations for such mosques will be determined once the Municipal Council issues the licenses.

This project will be funded through the donation of Awqaf Secretariat General which allocated about KD1 million for the construction of 17 mosques at a cost of KD60,000 per mosque, Emadi added.

He affirmed there is no follow up for contractors who did not receive the contract for construction of mosques as their tenders were released and they won in the bidding but they failed for many reasons. He said the ministry deals with such contractors according to the law to ensure its funds are protected.
