The Head of Kuwait Students Union in Canada, Ali Akbar, was recently quoted as saying the rates of Kuwaitis studying in Canadian universities and colleges has been very high in recent years, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Akbar told the daily, “The specializations the Kuwaiti students opt for are in the medical fields, followed by the engineering. The engineering disciplines were made available by the concerned Kuwaiti authorities three years ago. They were various disciplines but because of austerity measures a number of them have been discontinued.” Akbar said the engineering disciplines currently available for scholarships to Kuwaiti students are only 4, and that the Department of Specializations was previously extensive for students to choose what suits them, including economy and business administration, but no more available.

He stressed the Union, as the representative of the students studying there, is not satisfied with the number of universities currently accredited, and seeks to increase the number and expand the scope of disciplines to meet the desires of the students.
