No. of Kuwaiti students in Canada high:
The Head of Kuwait Students Union in Canada, Ali Akbar, was recently quoted as saying the rates of Kuwaitis studying in Canadian universities and colleges has been very high in recent years, reports Al-Qabas daily.
He put the number of scholarships in Canada at 350 and pointed out the austerity policy followed by Kuwait’s Ministry of Higher Education for engineering scholarships has been reduced to only 4 disciplines.
Akbar told the daily, “The specializations the Kuwaiti students opt for are in the medical fields, followed by the engineering. The engineering disciplines were made available by the concerned Kuwaiti authorities three years ago. They were various disciplines but because of austerity measures a number of them have been discontinued.” Akbar said the engineering disciplines currently available for scholarships to Kuwaiti students are only 4, and that the Department of Specializations was previously extensive for students to choose what suits them, including economy and business administration, but no more available.
He stressed the Union, as the representative of the students studying there, is not satisfied with the number of universities currently accredited, and seeks to increase the number and expand the scope of disciplines to meet the desires of the students.
Festival at cooperative societies:
Official spokesman of Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, and Assistant Undersecretary for Cooperative Affairs Abdulaziz Shuaib announced that the ministry is currently coordinating with Consumer Cooperative Societies Union to hold promotional festival “Productive Families” in cooperative societies free of charge during the month of Ramadan every year, reports AlAnba daily.
MoCI issues licenses:
Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued 1,665 licenses to various companies via Kuwait Business Center in the month of January, reports Al-Rai daily.
In a press statement, the ministry revealed that the aforementioned licenses included 1,533 to various firms, 26 to small enterprises and 106 licenses to mobile vehicles.
